al-Baslama, Mohamed.: Security officer on the starship Enterprise during Kirk's five-year mission. Lieutenant al-Baslama was second in command of the ships security department, but was murdered by non-corporeal entities that took over the bodies of Enterprise crew members in the 2260s. ("Mindshadow" [Pocket TOS #27]; "Demons" [Pocket TOS #30]).
Al-Batani, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Excelsior-class explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-42995. The Al-Batani was commanded by Owen Paris, who had Kathryn Janeway as his science officer. ("Caretaker" [VGR #1&2]). The Al-Batani's class and registry number are derived from the Star Trek Encyclopedia.
Al-Leyan Transport.: Starship. ("The Chase" [TNG #146]).
Al Mahdi, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Cochise-class destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-545. Built in the 23rd century. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The configuration of the Cochise-class was displayed on the Federation Starship Recognition Chart. The FASA manual listed this as a Larson-class destroyer with a registry of NCC-4421. I haven't listed it in the main body of the entry, because it seems unlikely Starfleet would have so many hundreds of the same type of ship.
Al Rashid, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Ptolemy-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3802. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
Alam'ak, U.S.S.: Federation starship proposed during the 23rd century. This vessel's construction was cancelled, and it's registry was assigned to another vessel. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]). It's possible ships of these names were still built, of different classes and registry numbers. If built, this ship would have been Achernar-class, with the registry NCC-1796, according to the manuals.
Alameda.: Locale in California on the North American continent of Earth. ("The Voyage Home" [Movie #4]).
Alamo, Battle of the.: Historic Terran battle. ("Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night" [DS9 #141]; "Afterimage" [DS9 #153]).
Alan-a-Dale.: Fictional character from the tales of Robin Hood. ("QPid" [TNG #94]).
Alans.: Science officer on the starship Enterprise-D, a specialist in volcanology and geomechanics. Alans was assigned to Wesley Crusher's team studying the Selcundi Drema star systems. ("Pen Pals" [TNG #41]). Played by Whitney Rydbeck.
Alaric, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Saladin-class destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-503. Built in the 23rd century. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The FASA manual listed this as a Larson-class destroyer with a registry of NCC-4358. I haven't listed it in the main body of the entry, because it seems unlikely Starfleet would have so many hundreds of the same type of ship.
Alaris, Dathan.: Enaran citizen, member of the ethnic group known as Regressives. Dathan and his people were systematically exterminated by their government in the mid-24th century. Before his death, Dathan was romantically involved with Korenna Mirell. ("Remember" [VGR #48]). Played by Charles Esten, who previously played Divok in "Rightful Heir" [TNG #149].
Alastria.: Class-M planet in a binary star system about 40,000 light years from Sikaris. Eudana took Kim here so that he could tell her his stories. Euphoric erosene winds blow across the surface. ("Prime Factors" [VGR #10])
Alawanir Nebula.: ("Rightful Heir" [TNG #149]).
Alaya II.: Federation planet, location of a large telepathic conference in 2374 that was the target of a Dominion attack. The telepaths present were planned to be used as carriers of a meme virus, a destructive thought that would disable their telepathy and leave the Federation without their resources to detect Changelings in their midst. ("Reality's End" [Marvel Telepathy War #1]).
Alba Ra.: ("Suddenly Human" [TNG #76]).
Alben.: Captain of the Nasari ship Nerada. ("Favorite Son" [VGR #62]). Played by Christopher Carroll.
Albeni meditation crystal.: ("Angel One" [TNG #15]).
Albert.: Starfleet lieutenant commander, the father of Joshua Albert. Commander Albert was present during the Boards of Inquiry that were held following his son's tragic death in a Starfleet Academy training accident in 2368. ("The First Duty" [TNG #119]). Played by Ed Lauter. Lauter also appeared as astronaut Marcus Belt on The X-Files.
Albert, Joshua.: Starfleet cadet. In 2368 Josh Albert was a member of Starfleet Academy's elite training group, Nova Squadron. The Nova cadets planned to perform an illegal flight manuver, the Kolvoord Starburst, in which five vessels exhaust and ignite their plasma as they fly apart at five different angles, but while secretly practicing an accident was caused and two vessels collided, killing Cadet Albert and injuring his friend Wes Crusher. Shortly before his death, Josh went skiing in Calgary, and left his sweater with Wes Crusher. ("The First Duty" [TNG #119]).
Albert Einstein.: Shuttlecraft 02 on the starship Enterprise-D. The Einstein was dragged into a wormhole while en route to Beta Hydros IV and deposited in the Delta Quadrant in 2367. The crew of the shuttle was stranded in a alien junkyard until they managed to use a derelict transwarp vessel to propel themselves home. ("The Flight of the Albert Einstein" [DC TNG vol.2 #20]; "Mourning Star" [DC TNG vol.2 #21]; "Trapped" [DC TNG vol.2 #22]; "The Barrier" [DC TNG vol.2 #23]; "Homecoming" [DC TNG vol.2 #24]).
Albino, the.: ("Blood Oath" [DS9 #39]). Played by Bill Bolender.
Albrecht, Jason.: ("Recovery" [Pocket TOS]).
Alcia.: ("Innocence" [VGR #38]). Played by Marnie McPhail.
Alcott.: Administrator of the Final Wish Upon a Star Foundation, who accepted the gift of an alien artifact which brings thoughts and desires to life. ("Mudd's Magic!" [DC TOS vol.2 #40]).
Alcyones.: ("Haven" [TNG #5]).
Aldabren exchange.: ("The Price" [TNG #56]).
Aldara.: Cardassian warship. ("Past Prologue" [DS9 #4]).
Aldea.: ("When the Bough Breaks" [TNG #18]).
Aldeans.: Humanoids from the once hidden world of Aldea. They have suffered severe genetic damage from ozone depletion resulting from their planetary cloaking device. They are highly advanced in the arts and sciences but have become sterile from their ancient cloaking technology. The future of the Aldean race is in serious doubt.("When the Bough Breaks" [TNG #18]).
Aldebaran.: Federation colony. Dr. Elizabeth Dehner joined the crew of the starship Enterprise when it visited this planet in 2264. The starship Sovereign visited this planet's city of New Canberra in 2289. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1]; Ships of the Star Fleet, vol.1).
Aldebaran Music Academy.: ("Shadowplay" [DS9 #36]).
Aldebaran serpent.: ("Hide and Q" [TNG #11]).
Aldebaran whiskey.: ("Relics" [TNG #130]).
Aldebaran, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1812. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]). This vessel is listed as one of dozens of future Constitution-class variant starships. It seems more likely the name and registry was used as a vessel of another class.
Aldebaran, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Nebula-class. The second starship to bear the name, the Aldebaran was destroyed at Deep Space Nine in 2376. ("Avatar" [Pocket DS9 vol.2 #1&2]).
Aldebaranian sling.: Type of weapon used by Picard of the Stargazer to defeat Pathox of Chalna when challenged to a ritual combat there in 2353. ("Children of Chaos" [DC TNG vol.2 #59]).
Alden.: Starfleet science lieutenant who served on the starship Enterprise in 2264. Alden was manning the communications post on the bridge when that vessel attempted to breach the galactic barrier on stardate 1312. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1]). Played by Lloyd Haynes.
Aldorian ale.: ("The Perfect Mate" [TNG #121]).
Aldrin, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Oberth-class scout. In 2361 Ensign Soleta was assigned to the Aldrin as a junior science officer. In 2362, during her time aboard, the vessel captured a notorious Romulan smuggler. ("The Two-Front War" [Pocket NF #3]).
Aldus, Gaius.: Magister navis and first officer of the starship Centurion under the command of Lucius Aelius Sejanus. ("The Captain's Honor" [Pocket TNG #8]).
Aleek-Om.: Federation historian who helped Kirk and Spock investigate the Guardian of Forever. Aleek-Om was an Aurelian. ("Yesteryear" [TAS #3]).
Aleek-Aur.: Aurelian ambassador to the Federation. (Worlds of the Federation).
Alenis Grem.: ("Second Skin" [DS9 #51]). Played by Freyda Thomas.
Aleph.: Star system. ("The Entropy Effect" [Pocket TOS #2]).
Aleph Prime.: Federation colony installation. ("The Entropy Effect" [Pocket TOS #2]).
Alesia, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a destroyer-type vessel. Built in the 23rd century. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The FASA manual listed this as a Larson-class destroyer with a registry of NCC-4354. I haven't listed it in the main body of the entry, because it seems unlikely Starfleet would have so many hundreds of the same type of ship.
Alexander.: Slave of the Platonians. ("Plato's Stepchildren" [TOS #67]). Played by Michael Dunn.
Alexander.: SEE: Rozhenko, Alexander. ("Reunion" [TNG]).
Alexander the Great.: Legendary human conqueror. A replicant of him existed on the world of Alexander Lazarus. Picard once likened Mackenzie Calhoun to Alexander the Great, because Calhoun had liberated his whole planet before he was even an adult. ("The Legacy of Lazarus" [Gold Key TOS #9]; "House of Cards" [Pocket NF #1]).
Alexander, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Saladin-class destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-511. Moves-With-Burning-Grace served as an engineer on this ship prior to his service on the Lee and the Enterprise. ("Flesh of My Flesh" [Marvel EV #1]; Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
Alexander, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Larson-class, Starfleet registry NCC-4367. Commissioned at stardate 5961.1, under the command of Captain Lucas Rayner. Its missions as of the 2260s were classified. ("Judgment Rites" [Interplay TOS]; Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The readout of the video game might have been meant to represent this vessel as Constitution-class. The 'Constitution-inflation' continues to rise, so I have disregarded it.
Alexandra's Planet.: World where an Iconian gateway was discovered in a highly classified mission under the command of Commander Elias Vaughn on Stardate 44765. ("Demons of Air and Darkness" [Pocket DS9 Gateways]).
Alexandria.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, an American starship commanded by Pete Hall. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
Alfa 117.: ("The Enemy Within" [TOS #4]).
Alfarian hair pasta.: Dish served in the mess hall of Voyager. Very high in protein, it is made from the follicles of the mature Alfarian, the hair is harvested during shedding season in the early fall. ("Parturition" [VGR #23]).
Alfarians.: Species from which hair pasta is derived. ("Parturition" [VGR #23]).
Alfaro, Edith K.: Starfleet lieutenant commander. In 2374 a report from the starship Exeter reported that Lt. Commander Alfaro was missing in action. ("In the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]). The names and status reports came from a casualty report shown in a background computer display.
Alferaz, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1781. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]). This vessel is listed as one of dozens of future Constitution-class starships. It seems more likely the name and registry was used as a vessel of another class.
Alfr, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a cruiser type vessel, Starfleet registry NCC-1741. In 2289 the Alfr went on an exploratory cruise, in the company of the starships Atalanti, Noshiro and Essahir. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships of the Star Fleet). This vessel is listed as one of dozens of future Constitution-class starships. It seems more likely the name and registry was used as a vessel of another class.

Algol II.: ("Futures" [Marvel EV #12-15]).
Algolian ceremonial rhythms.: ("Ménage à Troi" [TNG #72]).
Algolians.: Humanoid race which is distinguished physically by golden leathery skin with numerous small circular openings about the head, especially on their wide-set nostrils and atop their fluted head ridge similar to Klingons and Bolians. A native played the culture's famed ceremonial rhythms for the reception ending the biannual trade conference at Betazed. Another native was among the delegates to the Federation Archaeological Council's annual symposium at Tagus III. ("Ménage à Troi" [TNG #72]).
Algorian mammoth.: ("The Wire" [DS9 #42]).
Ali Bey, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a destroyer-type vessel. Built in the 23rd century. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The FASA manual listed this as a Larson-class destroyer with a registry of NCC-4393. Alice.: Representation of a literary character encountered by McCoy of the amusement park planet. ("Shore Leave" [TOS #17]).

Alliance.: Faction on planet Turkana IV. ("Legacy" [TNG #80]).

Alliance, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Federation-class dreadnought, Starfleet registry NCC-2113. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
Alliena.: One of the queens of the planet Domakleion. Alliena and her sister Madriana were involved in a bitter power struggle in 2366 when they both claimed their late mother's throne as their own. A solution was reached in negotiations headed up by Captain Picard of the starship Enterprise-D. ("The Hand of the Assassin" [DC TNG vol.2 #13]).
Allis.: Crown prince of the Chorrtan people. Allis was born blind, but in order to face the difficult ascension rituals involved with claiming his throne Allis was fitted with a VISOR by a team of Federation scientists. ("Childish Things" [DC TNG vol.2 #45]).
Almak.: Romulan, subcommander of the warbird T'met. ("Message in a Bottle" [VGR]).
Almatha sector.: ("Defiant" [DS9 #55]).
Alnath II.: ("The Klingon Gambit" [Pocket TOS #3]).
Alnilam, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1830. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
Alpha III: Planet. ("Court Martial" [TOS #14]).
Alpha III, Statutes of.: Landmark document in the protection of individual civil liberties, cited by Samuel Cogley when James Kirk was accused of murder in 2265, but denied the opportunity to face his accuser. ("Court Martial" [TOS #14]).
alpha 47 authorization.: ("Genesis" [TNG #171]).
Alpha V, Colony.: Human colony where Charles Evans' nearest living relatives lived. ("Charlie X" [TOS #7]).
Alpha 441.: ("Dreadnought" [VGR #34]).
Alpha Aquila.: Brightest star in the constellation Aquila the Eagle. SEE: Altair.
Alpha Arietis.: Class KO giant yellow-orange star, also known as Hamal. The fourth planet is the homeworld of the Hamalki race, and also the location of Starbase 18. Alpha Arietis is close to Sol, but is also part of the Majoris Congeries, a group of stars with almost twenty inhabited worlds. ("The Wounded Sky" [Pocket TOS #13]).
Alpha Carinae.: Red supergiant star visble from Terra, also known as Canopus. Canopus has two inhabited planets, and is often used as a navigational reference, as Sulu did when the Enterprise was thrown across the galaxy by the Metrons. ("Arena" [TOS #19]).
Alpha Carinae II.: A class-M planet with two major land masses used in 2267 to test the M-5 computer's performance in conducting routine planetary contact and survey operations. ("The Ultimate Computer" [TOS #53]).
Alpha Carinae IV.: SEE: Canopus IV.
Alpha Carinae V.: Planet of origin of the Drella, a creature that derives it's energy from the emotion of love. This planet is also the location of New California colony, where Harcourt Fenton Mudd last seen after his release following his 2268 arrest on Arcadia III. ("Wolf in the Fold" [TOS #36]; Officer's Manual [TOS]).
Alpha Centauri.: One of the nearest stars to Terra's solar system, some 4.3 light-years from Sol. Alpha Centauri was first visited by humans in the mid-21st century by the U.N.S.S. Icarus. Colonization of this system was made possible by Zefram Cochrane's warp drive, first tested in 2063. Cochrane later made this system his adopted home. While trapped In Earth's past, Kirk told USAF officer Fellini that he was a little green man from Alpha Centauri and that it was a beautiful place to visit. When Betazed fell to Jem'Hadar forces during the Dominion war, it was noted that this left them in striking distance to many key systems, including Alpha Centauri. ("Tomorrow Is Yesterday" [TOS #21]; "Metamorphosis" [TOS #31]; "In the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]; "Strangers From the Sky" [Pocket TOS Giant #2]).
Alpha Centauri IV.: SEE: Centaurus.
Alpha Centauri V.: Planetary location of Bedi Plains, where Axaanivus Celesco Starcraft maintains a shipyard. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 2).
Alpha Centauri VII.: Federation planet. Location of Minos al Rijil, a city where Cochrane Warp Dynamics' main construction facility is located. Also the location of the city of Makarii, where an annual Grand Regent's celebration is held. The starship Sovereign visited here for the Grand Regent's Celebration in 2289. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol.1).
Alpha Centauri Concordium.: Planetary government of the Centauri star systems, an important component of the Federation. The contact world is Procyon. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; "Dreadnought!" [Pocket TOS #29]).
Alpha Crucis.: SEE: Acrux.
alpha-currant nectar.: Wadi beverage offered by Falow as a wager in a Dabo game at Deep Space 9 in 2369. Quark declined the bid after finding the drink distasteful. ("Move Along Home" [DS9 #10]).
Alpha Cygnus IX.: Federation Ambassador Sarek was credited for a treaty with this planet, one of the many triumphs of his distinguished career. ("Sarek" [TNG #71]).
Alpha Darwin.: ("Acceptable Risk" [DC TOS vol.2 #44]).
alpha-dextran.: Pharmaceutical used to prevent damaged brain tissue from degrading further and encourage neural activity. Dr. McCoy prescribed alpha-dextran in 2267 when Spock suffered massive cranial trauma after falling off a precipice on Aritani. ("Mindshadow" [Pocket TOS #27]).
Alpha Eridani.: SEE: Achernar.
Alpha Eridani III.: Planet the starship Enterprise set a course to when being pursued by the Klingon cruiser Rapache while investigating a suspicious Klingon ore transport in 2267. ("Ishmael" [Pocket TOS #23]).
Alpha Gederix IV.: Planet, more commonly known as Ssan. ("Shadows on the Sun" [Pocket TOS]).
Alpha Hydros V.: Federation colony that was stricken with an outbreak of Zelaznan fever, a potentially fatal virus, in 2367. Fortunately, the starship Enterprise-D arrived in time to synthesize the vaccine. ("The Flight of the Albert Einstein" [DC TNG vol.2 #20]; "Mourning Star" [DC TNG vol.2 #21]).
Alpha Leonis.: Star system the Enterprise-D was ferrying medical supplies to in 2366 when they were diverted by a distress signal from a station attacked by Gatherers. ("The Vengeance Factor" [TNG #57]).
Alpha Majoris I.: Planet origin of the Mellitus, a creature that is gaseous when moving and becomes solid when it ceases movement. ("Wolf in the Fold" [TOS #36]).
Alpha Moon.: One of two satellites orbiting Peliar Zel. The inhabitants of Alpha Moon developed an ingenious system to generate power by tapping into the magnetic field of Peliar Zel. While this was of great benefit to the people on Alpha, it had detrimental environmental effects on Beta Moon. The two moons, historically at odds, sought the mediation of Ambassador Odan to resolve the conflict in 2367. ("The Host" [TNG #97]).
Alpha Narnia VII.: Nondescript planet where Sean O'Brien owns a pub, which is well known for its ladies' night events. ("The Lesson" [DC TNG vol.2 #19]).
Alpha Omicron.: Star the Enterprise-D passed en route to the Guernica system in 2367. An unknown life-form was discovered in it's system, living in the vacuum of space. SEE: Junior. ("Galaxy's Child" [TNG #90]).
Alpha Onias III.: Uninhabited class-M planet, listed by Federation survey teams as barren and inhospitable. Subspace fluctuations detected in the system in 2367 suggested a possible cloaked Romulan base. While investigating this possibility, Commander Riker experienced an elaborate holodeck-type reality devised by Barash. ("Future Imperfect" [TNG #82]).
Alpha Palemon.: Destination of the freighter Gerda Asmund was serving on when she died. ("Reunion" [Pocket TNG HC #1]).
Alpha Pelusium.: Star system where, in a story told by Mot, Klytanians battled the starship Endeavour in an Oort cloud. Alexander chellenged this, as Alpha Pelusium didn't have an Oort cloud and was across the Federation from Klytanian space. ("Bridges" [DC TNG vol.2 #39]).
Alpha Pintara.: Star system containing a planet on which a monument to the queen of an ancient civilization exists. The city is protected by a strong force field, and challenges travelers to make their way through the streets of her world and face simulacrums of her deadliest enemies. Alpha Proxima II.: Planet where several women were knifed to death. The murders were similar to those committed by Jack the Ripper. ("Wolf in the Fold" [TOS #36]).
Alpha Quadrant.: One quarter of the entire milky way galaxy, the region in which most of the United Federation of Planets, including Earth, is located. The galaxy is so large that the majority of the Alpha Quadrant remains unexplored, even in the 24th century. DS9 is in the Alpha Quadrant, near the borders of the Klingon and Cardassian Empires. ("Emissary" [DS9 #1&2]).
alpha search pattern.: ("Basics" [VGR 42&46]).
alpha-wave inducer.: Device used to enhance sleep in humanoids, meant only for occasional use. ("The Passenger" [DS9 #9]).
Alpha Zebra Outpost.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Alpha Zion.: Colony destroyed by a disaster. The only survivors were two young girls, Gerda and Idun Asmund, who were rescued by Klingons who responded to the distress call. ("Reunion" [Pocket TNG HC #1]).
Alphecca IV.: Homeworld of the Alpheccans. Dr. Spencer of the starship Marignano had spent some time doing work on this world prior to 2371. ("Intellivore" [Pocket TNG #45]).
Alpheccans.: Humanoid species with dark blue skin. Because of religious and cultural reasons, it is rare to find an Alpheccan outside of their home star system. The starship Enterprise-D found a dying Alpheccan aboard a damaged ship that had been victimized by an intellivore in 2371. ("Intellivore" [Pocket TNG #45]).
Alrik.: Chancellor of Valt Minor. ("The Perfect Mate" [TNG #121]). Played by Mickey Cottrell.
Alsaurian resistance movement.: Organization opposed to the Mokra Order. ("Resistance" [VGR #28]).
Alsia.: Humanoid con artist. ("Rivals" [DS9 #31]). Played by K Callan.
Alsurans.: Species that Annorax erased from time in his quest to restore the Krenim Imperium. Annorax told Paris that the food they were eating in 2374 was the last remnant of the Alsuran Empire. ("Year of Hell" [VGR #76&77]).
Alsuran Empire.: Government of the Alsurans in the Delta Quadrant that was once erased from time by Annorax. ("Year of Hell" [VGR #76&77]).
Alta mist.: Substance found on Alta Vista III. ("Avenger" [Pocket TOS HC #11]).
Alta Vista.: Star system. ("Avenger" [Pocket TOS HC #11]).
Alta Vista III.: Planet. ("Avenger" [Pocket TOS HC #11]).
Alta Vista 257.: Asteroid in the Alta Vista system. ("Avenger" [Pocket TOS HC #11]).
Altair.: Star, also known as Alpha Aquila, the brightest in the consellation of Aquila the Eagle, located in Sector 3. There are at least four inhabited planets in this politically unstable star system. ("Amok Time" [TOS #34]).
Altair III.: Planet in the Altair system. ("Encounter at Farpoint" [TNG #1&2]; "The Last Verse" [DC TNG vol.2 #70]).
Altair IV.: Federation member planet, home of the Palkeo Est civilization. Dr. Henri Roget, winner of the 2371 Carrington award, worked at Central Hospital on Altair IV. ("Dreadnought!" [Pocket TOS #29]; "Prophet Motive" [DS9 #62]).
Altair VI.: Planet, the seat of power of the Altair Quadrant government. The politically unstable Altair system ended a long interplanetary conflict in 2267, culminating in the inauguration of a new president on Altair VI. The Federation considered this an important matter and arranged to have three starships present. The starships Excalibur and Endeavour arrived in time for the celebration, but the Enterprise was delayed by an emergency stopover at Vulcan. In Starfleet Academy's Kobayashi Maru training simulation, the freighter is sometimes disabled by a gravitic mine while six periods out from Altair VI, towards the Neutral Zone. ("Amok Time" [TOS]; "The Wrath of Khan" [Movie #2]; "The Klingon Gambit" [Pocket TOS #3]; "Dreadnought!" [Pocket TOS #29]; "Cloak" [Pocket TOS Section 31]).
Altair VII.: Inhabited planet. Altair VII was ravaged by an attacker known as the Nagha, with major losses of civilian life in many population centers. The Federation starships Excelsior and Republic provided humanitarian relief following the battle. ("The Sleeping God" [Bantam New Voyages 2]).
Altair water.: Beverage. ("The Search for Spock" [Movie #3]).
Altair Quadrant.: Planetary government of the Altair star system, an important component of the Federation. The contact world is Altair VI. ("Dreadnought!" [Pocket TOS #29]).
Altair, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a destroyer type vessel, Starfleet registry NCC-1803. This vessel existed in the mid to late 23rd century. The Altair's top speed was warp 9.9 on the old scale, and the ship was armed with four torpedo launchers and four phaser emitters. This vessel's complement is 200 crewpeople. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). There is, of course, no evidence that the Altair in the game was meant to be the Altair in the Technical Manual, but the ships in the TM list are better assigned to any other class, rather than being Constitution-variants, in my opinion.
Altairian conference.: Meeting where Captain Picard first met Captain Rixx. ("Conspiracy" [TNG #25]).
Altairian Grand Premier.: Champagne that Lore spiked to render Data unconcious. ("Datalore" [TNG #14]). The champagne label was an in-joke, as 'Altairian Grand Premier' stands for 'AGP,' coincidentally the initial of artist Andrew Probert.
Altarian encephalitis.: Disease, caused by a retrovirus. ("Future Imperfect" [TNG #82]).
Altec.: Planet in the Coalition of Madena. ("The Outageous Okona" [TNG #30]).
Alterian chowder.: Soup. ("Armageddon Game" [DS9 #33]).
Altiima.: Commanding officer of the starship Bradbury. ("The Good of the Many!" [DC TNG vol.2 #55]).
Altine conference.: Scientific conference. ("Suspicions" [TNG #148]).
Altonian brain teaser.: Puzzle game. ("A Man Alone" [DS9 #3]).
Altovar.: Lethean criminal. ("Distant Voices" [DS9 #64]).
Alturat squadron.: Fighter group stationed on the strike cruiser Sovereign. A vessel of Alturat squad crashed in that ships shuttlebay in 2289 with severe damage but no casualties. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol.1).
Alture VII relaxation program.: Holodeck program. ("Birthright" [TNG #142&143]).
aluminum, transparent.: SEE: transparent aluminum. ("The Voyage Home" [Movie #4]).
Alungis.: Star in sector 48472 of the Beta Quadrant. ("No Man's Land" [Pocket VGR Gateways #5]).
Alungis IV: Homeworld of the Nenlar people, in sector 48472 of the Beta Quadrant. ("No Man's Land" [Pocket VGR Gateways #5]).
Alva, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Cochise-class destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-531. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
Alvanian beehive.: Insect community known for bouts of frenetic activity. ("Rapture" [DS9 #108]).
Alvanian brandy.: Alcoholic beverage, which was donated to Quark's bar by Julian Bashir, supposedly because he didn't like the stuff. ("Body Parts" [DS9 #97]).
Alvanian cave sloth.: Animal known for its deep slumbering. ("The Sword of Kahless" [DS9 #81]).
Alvanian spine mite.: Parasitic insects that make their home in humanoid spinal columns, causing the host to experience extreme pain for many years. ("The Begotten" [DS9 #110]).
Alvarado, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Cochise-class destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-537. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]).
Alverian dung beetle.: Form of insect life. ("Apocalypse Rising" [DS9 #99]).
Alvinian melons.: Large green variety of fruit. ("Return to Grace" [DS9 #86]).
Alzen.: Srivani scientist, one of 50 that boarded Voyager, observing and conducting experiments on the crew in 2374. When Seven used a phaser to make Alzen become visible, Alzen informed Janeway that the data they are gathering may help her people cure physical and psychological disorders that afflict millions and that the entire experiment and crew would be terminated if Janeway tried to interfere. ("Scientific Method" [VGR #75]). Played by Rosemary Forsyth.
