Bearclaw, John.: Captain of the Federation starship Gallant. Bearclaw, a full blooded American Indian and father of William Bearclaw, was killed by a Klingon ambush that destroyed his ship in 2285. ("The Wormhole Connection" [DC TOS #1]).
Bearclaw, William.: Officer trainee on the starship Enterprise when it was assaulted by Khan in 2285. Bearclaw was one of the officer trainees that survived the meleé in the Mutara sector, only to learn that his father had been killed in battle with the Klingons. Bearclaw assumed that one of the causes of his father's death was the incompetence of the Gallant's crew, and took his anger out on Ensign Nancy Bryce, whose father Bernard was science officer aboard the Gallant. ("The Wormhole Connection" [DC TOS #1], et al.).
Becker.: Engineering crewman on the starship Enterprise. ("Dreams of the Raven" [Pocket TOS #34]).
Bedi Plains.: Location on Alpha Centauri V where Axaanivus Celesco Starcraft operates a shipyard. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 2).
Bedo.: ("World Against Time" [Gold Key TOS #47]).
Behr'ak, U.S.S.: Federation starship proposed during the 23rd century. This vessel's construction was cancelled, and it's registry was assigned to another vessel. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]). It's possible ships of these names were still built, of different classes and registry numbers. If built, this ship would have been Achernar-class, with the registry NCC-1797, according to the manuals.
Bekkaas Installation.: Federation base, home port of the starship Sovereign until 7 February 2289. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol.1).
B'el.: Officer on the Furies ship Erinyes. ("The Soldiers of Fear" [Pocket TNG #41]).
Belandrid.: ("The Pandora Principle" [Pocket TOS #49]).
Belandros.: ("The Pandora Principle" [Pocket TOS #49]).
Belix.: Tactical officer on the Enterprise-D. ("The Flight of the Albert Einstein" [DC TNG vol. 2 #20]).

Belknap-class.: Type of Federation starship, classified as a strike cruiser. The Belknap-class was first built during the 2270s, an evolution on the design to the Decatur-class starship. (Ships of the Star Fleet).
Belknap, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Belknap-class, Starfleet registry NCC-2501. (Ships of the Star Fleet).
Bellatrix, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1832. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Belle Terre.: ("Challenger" [Pocket New Earth]; "Chainmail" [Pocket Gateways #2]).
Bellerophon, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Nebula-class explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-62048. The Bellerophon was one of 39 Federation starships that was destroyed in combat with the Borg cube during the Battle of Wolf 359. It was in the formation that included the Melbourne, Saratoga and Yamaguchi. ("Emissary" [DS9 #1&2]). The Bellerophon's name was spelled incorrectly as 'Bellerephon' in some references, raising the possibility the model's labeling (which was not legible onscreen) was also in error. Even if this was so, the correct spelling was used on the later starship of this name. Bellerophon was an ancient Greek mythological hero who fought the Chimera. It was also the name of the spacecraft in the film Forbidden Planet.
Bellerophon, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Intrepid-class cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-74705. The Bellerophon is at least the second starship to bear this name, and was one of the first three Intrepid-class ships constructed. This ship transferred Vice Admiral Ross, Dr. Julian Bashir and other Federation representatives to a onference on Romulus in 2375. (“Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges” [DS9]). Rick Sternbach's 2002 Intrepid-class history was published in Star Trek: The Magazine, listing the Bellerophon as the second Intrepid, conflicting with other sources such as Starship Spotter [Pocket] and backstage reference that states that Voyager was second. Possibly Bellerophon was finished second, even though Voyager was laid down earlier and just took longer to construct.
Bellinorn.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Belmara IV.: Planet, source of low-grade iridium ore. ("The Argon Affair" [DC TOS vol.1 #38]).
Belnarri.: ("The Devil's Heart" [Pocket TNG HC]).
Bem.: ("Bem" [TAS]).
Ben Zoma, Gilaad.: Captain of the starship Lexington. Ben Zoma, before his captaincy, was the first officer of Jean-Luc Picard on the U.S.S. Stargazer. When the crew of Stargazer reunited in 2367 for the coronation of Morgen, another former shipmate, Ben Zoma was nearly killed by the mad Dr. Carter Greyhorse, seeking revenge for the death of his lover, Gerda Asmund. ("Reunion" [Pocket TNG HC #1]).
Bena.: ("The Siege" [Pocket DS9 #2]).
Bendii syndrome.: Rare, incurable and fatal illness that sometimes affects Vulcans over the age of 200. The disease is characterized by gradual loss of emotional control; victims exhibit bursts of emotion and irrational anger. In 2373, Dr. Selar thought she had detected the first signs of Bendii Syndrome in herself. The symptoms were caused by another condition. ("Sarek" [TNG]; "Unification" [TNG]; "The Devil's Heart" [Pocket TNG HC]; "The Two-Front War" [Pocket NF #3]).
Benecia sector.: ("Ship of the Line" [Pocket TNG HC #8]).
Benega IV.: Planet, home of the Benegans. ("Dreams of the Raven" [Pocket TOS #34]).
Benegans.: Inhabitants of Benega IV. Sulu's roommate at Starfleet Academy was Benegan, and showed him how to work metal into Benegan free-form sculpture. ("Dreams of the Raven" [Pocket TOS #34]).
Bennett, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Fernandes-class escort. ("Avenger" [Pocket TOS HC #11]).
Benson.: Engineering crewman on the starship Enterprise. Benson recieved a chest injury in 2268 when the ship was rammed by the Raven-possessed starcraft Selessan and died awaiting surgery. ("Dreams of the Raven" [Pocket TOS #34]).
Benson, Bjorn.: Terraforming engineer. ("Home Soil" [TNG]).
Benteen, Erika.: Captain of the starship Lakota. As a commander, Benteen served as adjutant to Admiral Leyton. Benteen was promoted in 2372 as part of Leyton's plot to put officers loyal to him in high ranking positions for his takeover of Earth. Under her command, the Lakota fired on the starship Defiant after Leyton led her to believe it was crewed by Changelings. Benteen ended the battle when she realized the orders were false, but not after the ships had damaged each other, killing several crewpeople. ("Homefront" [DS9]; "Paradise Lost" [DS9]). Played by Susan Gibney.
Beowulf, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a combat support tender, commanded by Ray Austin. ("Wagon Train to the Stars" [Pocket TOS New Earth #1]).
Berkley, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Nebula-class heavy cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-64720. Commanded by Elizabeth Haley, this ship was assigned to research in the Vesuvi star system. ("Bridge Commander" [Activision]).
Berlin, Karyn.: One of the humans living on New Earth in the Delta Quadrant. Berlin was involved in the firefight between the crew of the U.S.S. Voyager and her people, the latter descended from humans kidnapped from Earth in 1937 by the Briori. ("The 37's" [VOY #17]).
Berlin, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Excelsior-class explorer. The Berlin was one of the squad that oversaw the dismantling of secret Catarr bases near Gamma Ysalis in 2367. ("Wet Behind the Ears" [DC TNG vol.2 #32]).
Berlioz.: ("First Contact" [Movie #8]).
Bernard, Harry.: ("When the Bough Breaks" [TNG #18]).
Bernard, Harry Jr.: ("When the Bough Breaks" [TNG #18]).
Berthold Rays.: ("A Small Matter of Faith" [DC TOS #56]).
Bessell, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Dollond-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3911. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Beta III.: ("The Return of the Archons" [TOS #22]).
Beta Algenib III.: ("The Pandora Principle" [Pocket TOS #49]).
Beta Aurigae.: Star in Federation space, near Starbase 27 that emits Berthold Rays. The starship Pralaya was destroyed near here during the Four Years War by Klingon allied warships. The Enterprise responded to a distress signal in 2266 from the Defiant, which had suffered from a baffle plate rupture in this system. ("A Small Matter of Faith" [DC TOS #56]).
Beta Cabrini.: ("Legacy" [Pocket TOS #56]).
Beta Carinae.: ("Present Tense" [Pocket TOS Janus Gate #1]).
Beta Damoron V.: SEE: Modala.
Beta Epsilon.: Star orbited by Beta Epsilon VI. The U.S.S. Valor was destroyed in this system in 2285. ("Mortal Gods" [DC TOS vol.1 #5]).
Beta Epsilon VI.: Planet inhabited by an primitive nonindustrialized insectoid culture. Survivors from the starship Valor crashed here in 2285, and it's captain was responsible for a violation of the Prime Directive when he set himself up as the leader of these people. The starship Enterprise later repaired the damage to the culture. ("Mortal Gods" [DC TOS vol.1 #5]).
Beta Exorpa.: Joint Federation-Klingon research colony. In 2372, Beta Exorpa was destroyed by a Tholian attack. ("War & Madness, Part I: The First Casualty" [DC TNG vol. 2 #71]).
Beta Hydros IV.: A Federation colony. In 2267, Beta Hydros IV was stricken with an outbreak of Zelaznan fever, a potentially fatal virus. Fortunately, the starship Enterprise-D arrived in time to synthesize the vaccine. ("The Flight of the Albert Einstein" [DC TNG vol. 2 #20]).
Beta Marada.: Star outside of Federation space. The starship Marco Polo was set upon by Darzun drones programmed to protect territory in this system in 2367. ("Thin Ice" [TNG DC vol. 2 Ann. #2]).
Beta Maxilla VII.: ("The Rift!" [DC TNG vol. 2 #30]).
Beta Magellan.: Star system where Bynaus is located. The Beta Magellan star went nova in 2364, causing serious damage to that planet's computer based society. ("11001001" [TNG #16]).
Beta Niobe.: ("All Our Yesterdays" [TOS #78]).
Beta Nirobi II.: Federation agricultural colony that the starship Enterprise was dispatched to in 2266 when a subspace transmitter failed. Commander Scott met an old friend, Glynnis Campbell there, where she had settled with husband Angus McFarlane. ("Retrospect" [DC TOS vol. 1 Ann. #1]).
Beta Origii.: Star near which crime leader Zagtun Bonecrusher met an accident in 2287. Pieces of him are still orbiting it. ("Not... Sweeney!" [DC TOS vol. 2 #7]).
Beta Quadrant.: ("Intellivore" [Pocket TNG #45]).
Beta Tharsis IV.: Planet. ("Metamorphosis" [Pocket TNG Giant #1]).
Beta Trilochus.: ("To Walk the Night" [DC TOS vol.2 Ann. #4]).
Betazed.: ("Encounter at Farpoint" [TNG #1&2]; "Haven" [TNG]; "Menage a Troi" [TNG).
Betazoid.: Humanoid species. SEE: Troi, Deanna; Troi, Lwaxana, Grax, Reittan; Suder, Lon; Elbrun, Tam; Hagan, Andrus. ("Encounter at Farpoint" [TNG #1&2]; "Haven" [TNG]; "Menage a Troi" [TNG]; "Imzadi" [Pocket TNG HC]).
Betelgeuse, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1822. Built by Ishikawajima Harima Industries at Yokohama on Terra. Based at Star Station Cepheus. Departed station with the starship Hai Din for an extended duration exploratory mission in April 2285 to last until early 2289. (Ships of the Star Fleet).
Beth, Ronni.: Starfleet ensign assigned to the U.S.S. Excalibur-A under the command of Captain Mackenzie Calhoun. In 2373, Beth was assigned to the previous U.S.S. Excalibur's engineering department. ("Endgame" [Pocket NF #4]. This character was named after author Peter David's sister Ronni Beth David.
B'Etor.: Klingon. ("Generations" [Movie #7]; "Redemption" [TNG#100&101]; "Firstborn" [TNG]; "Past Prologue" [DS9 #4]). Played by Gwynyth Walsh.
beverages.: SEE: Acamarian brandy; Aldebaran whiskey; Aldorian ale; alpha-currant nectar; Altair water; Alvanian brandy; Andolian brandy; Andonian tea; Andorian ale; Antarean brandy; Arcturian fizz; Kaylar Kalamity; Lathian spirits; mint julep; prune juice; Raktajino; Salurian rum; Saurian brandy; soya; synthale, synthehol; Tarkalean tea.
Beytek Nak-Sur the Sixth.: Emperor of the Lhiaarian Empire, father to Beytek the Seventh. ("Seven of Nine" [Pocket VGR #16]).
B'Hala.: Legendary ancient Bajoran city. ("Rapture" [DS9]).
B'hava'el.: SEE: Bajor B'hava'el.
Biela, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Doppler-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3884. (Technical Manual [TOS])
B'ijik.: Klingon. ("Unification" [TNG]). Played by Erick Avari. Avari also portrayed Vedek Yarka in "Destiny" [DS9]; and was seen in the film "Stargate."
Bilenii.: Strategically unimportant trinary star system within Klingon space. Captain Kyron and the Falchion patrolled this system for over a year. This system contains a white dwarf and two yellow stars without planets, 4,020 large sized asteroids and a comet with an 845 year period. ("Dreams of the Raven" [Pocket TOS #34]).
Binar, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1819. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
biomimetic gel.: ("In the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]).
birra.: Ketiran name for an intelligent species known as the Lyndak. ("Homeworld" [DC TOS vol.2 Annual #3]).
Bismarck, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a cruiser-type vessel, Starfleet registry NCC-1704. Bismarck was built in the mid-23rd century. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The FASA manual lists this as a Constitution-class vessel, one of hundreds. Doesn't seem likely.
Bittle, Rick K.: Starfleet ensign. In 2374, reports from the starships Nobel, Cochrane, Starbase 153 and Starbase 129 stated that Ensign Bittle was killed in action. ("In the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]). The names and status reports came from a casualty report shown in a background computer display.
Black.: Starfleet command officer who captained an interceptor-type vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. (Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). The game software put each captain name in command of a random vessel each time the game was played.
Black Elk, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Akira-class heavy cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-62878. Before construction was authorized, this vessel was assigned to be built as NCC-62505, it was later reappropriated and the registry became NCC-62878. The Black Elk was reported lost with all hands after vanishing during a routine patrol of the Cardassian border in 2369. (The Price of Freedom [LUG RPG Sourcebook]; Recognition Manual: Ships of Starfleet [LUG RPG Sourcebook]; Starships [Decipher RPG Sourcebook]). Oddly enough, this ship is listed in the registers of two different gaming licensees, who apparently cross-pollinated each other's reference. The Last Unicorn Games references list the Black Elk as NCC-62505, however, the newer and more relevant Decipher RPG material lists NCC-62878. The games material lists this and many other American Indian referenced names, apparently misrecognizing two other ships, the Akira and Thunderchild, which are named not after Amerindian subjects, but after sci-fi/fantasy films.
Black Swan.: Space vessel that took part in the Belle Terre expedition in the 2270s. ("Wagon Train to the Stars" [Pocket New Earth #1]).
Blackjacket.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, a privately owned starship commanded by Ian Blackington. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
Blair.: In an alternate future timeline created by the 2368 death of Deanna Troi, Blair was the allasomorph science officer of the starship Enterprise-F under the command of Commodore Data in 2408. Blair and Data went back in time after Riker when he was attempting to change history and prevent her death, with Blair shapeshifting into the form of someone she was with when she died. ("Imzadi" [Pocket TNG HC #2]).
Blaise, R.J.: Starfleet diplomatic corps member, assigned as protocol officer to the starship Enterprise-A. ("Fast Friends" [DC TOS vol.2 #5]).
Blake, Greg.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Blake, Tessa.: Leader of a Maquis cell who led an attack onto a Cardassian vessel in 2271, believing that the Cardassians captured the ship commanded by Chakotay. She also kidnapped Dr. Julian Bashir for medical help. ("Vacation's Over" [Malibu DS9 Maquis #1]; "Victims of Deceit" [Malibu DS9 Maquis #3]).
Blake, Tom.: Terran inhabitant of the Demilitarized Zone, a member of the Maquis cell commanded by Chakotay. In 2371 Gul Dulcet claimed to have Tom Blake captive, a ruse to control his sister, Maquis commander Tessa Blake. ("Victims of Deceit" [Malibu DS9 Maquis #3]).
Blaylock, Karen.: Captain of the starship Slayton. Blaylock died along with most of her crew when her vessel discovered a cloaked subspace anomaly in the Chiaros system and was assaulted by a Romulan warbird. ("Rogue" [Pocket Section 31 #2]).
Blimp, The.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, a Goodyear, Inc. starship commanded by Charles Goodyear IX. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
Bloch-Hanson, Peter: Starfleet lieutenant in the Emergency Relief Office who coordinated efforts of several starships, including the repaired Enterprise in the Talin system in 2269. ("Prime Directive" [Pocket TOS HC]).
Bloemker.: Security ensign on the starship Enterprise-A. ("Hell in a Handbasket" [DC TOS]).
Blood.: ("Chainmail" [Pocket Gateways #2]).
Blood Many.: ("Chainmail" [Pocket Gateways #2]).
Blood Plume.: ("Challenger" [Pocket New Earth]; "Chainmail" [Pocket Gateways #2]).
Blood Savage.: ("Challenger" [Pocket New Earth]; "Chainmail" [Pocket Gateways #2]).
Bloodwing.: Romulan bird-of-prey, Star Empire registry ChR 63. Commanded by Ael t'Rlaillieu. Operating along the Neutral Zone, Bloodwing went rogue in 2269 when Commander t'Rllaillieu decided to report to Captain Kirk of the Enterprise that Vulcans were being killed for mind power experiments on Levaeri V. Bloodwing was instrumental in a Starfleet Intelligence effort later that year to recover a captured Leonard McCoy off Romulus, where he was being tried for espionage for his complicity in a plot to steal a Romulan cloaking device in 2268. ("My Enemy, My Ally" [Pocket TOS #18]; "The Romulan Way" [Pocket TOS #35]).
Blucher, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Victorious-class light cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-50001. Built in 2349 at the Troyius Naval Yards, the Blucher went missing in 2350. (Officer's Manual [FASA TNG]).
Blue Fire, I.K.S.: Klingon battleship, D-4 battlecruiser type. ("The Final Reflection" [Pocket TOS #16]).
Blue Parrot Café.: ("Angel One" [TNG]).
Bluejay 4.: Callsign for the plane of Air Force Captain John Christopher. In 1969, Bluejay 4 sighted a UFO while on a patrol, the time-displaced starship Enterprise which had fallen into Earth's atmosphere. In an attempt to contain knowledge of their vessels presence, the Enterprise locked a tractor beam on Christoper's plane, unintentionally destroying it. This timeline was averted though, when the ship went back in time to prevent itself from causing any damage to the timeline. ("Tomorrow Is Yesterday" [TOS #21]).
Bluenose IV.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, a British starship commanded by Sinclair Rowan. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
