2356. After that battle, Endar discovered a three-year-old human male named
Jeremiah Rossa near the body of the boy's dead mother. In accordance with
Talarian custom that allows a warrior to claim the son of a slain enemy
in replacement of his own dead son, Endar took the child, whom he named
Jono, and raised him as his own son. ("Suddenly Human" [TNG]). Played

starship, a variant of the Constitution-class.

Star Fleet [T. Guenther]). The fact that some Constitution-class vessels had been
uprated to specifications such as the Endeavour help make sense
of the continuity problem where Kirk says there are only twelve vessels
like the Enterprise in the fleet. With the fact that even vessels
as advanced as the Enterprise-A were still referred to as Constitution-class,
it seems likely that these vessels would still be considered Constitution-class
also. See the next entry for spelling information.

Federation starship, Constitution-class
heavy cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-1001. The Endeavour was among
the first series of Constitution-class starships built, and was
lost in 2250 in the Theta Eridani star system. ("Experiment in Vengeance"
[Marvel TOS]). The cover of the comic listed the registry as NCC-1001,
but the interior listed it as NCC-1705. Since this vessel was lost well
before the building of the Endeavor-type starship from Ships of
the Star Fleet and the Endeavour referred to during the time period
of TOS and beyond, it must be an earlier vessel of the same name. The low
registry seems odd, but concurs with the registries of two early Constitution-class
vessels, the NCC-956 Eagle and the NCC-1017 Constellation.
The original spelling in the comic was Endeavor, but it seems likely
all of Starfleet's vessels of this name would be spelled in the same way
as the Endeavour seen later on TNG. The Okuda Encyclopediæ
list both spellings for the Constitution-class Endeavour.

was refit to new specifications in the 2260s as an Endeavour-type
Constitution-class
variant. In 2267, the Endeavour was assigned to Altair VI for the
inauguration of their new president. In 2293, the Endeavour was on a deep
space exploration mission.

Endeavour as NCC-1718. The NCC-1895 registry
has been perpetuated in Okuda's Encyclopediæ and definitively appeared in signage from "The
Undiscovered Country," and thus is the most accepted. FASA role-playing
game source material have listed Endeavor as NCC-1777. Please see

Federation starship, Nebula-class
light explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-71805. The third starship to bear
the name, Endeavour served in Picard's armada to blockade Romulan
supply ships supplying the Duras family forces during the Klingon Civil
War. The Endeavour was stationed in the Cleon Sector later in 2368
when Enterprise-D crew members were controlled by Ktarian operatives
seeking to gain control of Starfleet. Commander William Riker was ordered
to pilot a shuttle to the Endeavour to spread the Ktarian takeover.
In 2371 the commanding officer of the Endeavour was Captain Amasov.
The Endeavour was part of the Starfleet armada that intercepted
a Borg cube at Earth on stardate 50893. ("Redemption" [TNG]; "The Game"
[TNG]; "First Contact" [TNG]). The TNG staff decided to name this vessel
with the British spelling of Endeavour, in light of the U.S. Government's
use of it on the space shuttle, in honor of the sailing ship. It has been
stated that the Endeavour could have been at Wolf 359 and survived
the battle, on the basis that Captain Amasov was stated to have encountered
the Borg. Captain Amasov could have been at Wolf 359 and survived (as Ben
Sisko did) to tell the tale, and then commanded the Endeavour later.
The Endeavour could also have encountered a Borg scout ship at a
location other that Wolf 359 (like the Enterprise-D did in "I, Borg"
[TNG] and the S.S. Raven had done in the 2350s. There is no basis
in fact for saying any vessels survived Wolf 359. Actually, the story of
the Endeavour surviving Wolf 359 might have been shown in the cancelled
"Unseen Frontier," a fact revealed to the Flare Forum by Adam 'Mojo' Liebowitz,
an artist who worked on Trek productions and 2001's "Starship Spotter"
[Pocket].

massive spacelift operation to evacuate the 10 million inhabitants of Bayard's
Planet before the Phi Puma supernova shockwave ignited a cascade nova in the

authorized on stardate 6066. Around stardate 7412 (in 2272), the Entente
was contacted with orders relayed by the Epsilon IX outpost. ("The
Motion Picture" [Movie #1]; Star Fleet Technical Manual [Franz Joseph Designs]).
The Entente's name and registry number were overheard in the comm chatter
sequence of Star Trek I, it was taken from the list in the earlier non-canon
manual, which supplied the information on its class and type.

Three-masted 19th century sailing frigate.
A holographic representation of this Enterprise was used by the crew of
the starship Enterprise-D as the setting for the promotion ceremony held
for Worf in 2371, when be became a lieutenant commander. ("Generations" [Movie
#7]). The Enterprise frigate was a redress of the Lady Washington
sailing out of Marina Del Rey, California.

Terran American space shuttle
orbiter built in the late 20th century. An image of this ship, the first
spacecraft to bear the name Enterprise, was displayed on the rec deck of
the refitted original starship Enterprise. ("The Motion Picture" [Movie
#1]). In real life, the orbiter Enterprise was named by American
President Gerald Ford after many Star Trek fans wrote to NASA, urging that the
first space shuttle be named for Star Trek's starship.
Gene Roddenberry and several members of the Star Trek cast were honored guests
at the rollout of the Enterprise in September 1976. It is unclear if the
rollout with the guests is the same filmed rollout of the Enterprise
shuttle shown in the opening sequences of Enterprise, the series.

Terran space vessel, registry XCV-330, that existed
prior to the mid 22nd century. An image of this historical vehicle was displayed
on the rec deck of the starship Enterprise NCC-1701. The vessel was also
honored with an image on the wall in the 602 Club in the 2150s. ("The Motion Picture" [Movie #1];
"First Flight" [ENT]).
This ship was designed by Matt Jefferies for a television series project
developed by Gene Roddenberry after the run of the original Star Trek.
Unfortunately, the series was never produced, and these remain the only
appearances of the design. There is no canon information concerning this vessel.
The registry number comes from another painting of the vessel, although this
particular painting apparently was not the same as the ones in The Motion
Picture or "First Flight..

battle cruiser, Empire registry NCC-1701. Commanded by Christopher R. Pike
until his assassination by James T. Kirk in 2264. A landing party from the U.S.S.
Enterprise was accidentally transported to the I.S.S. Enterprise
during a severe ion storm in 2267. This incident had serious political
ramifications regarding the balance of aggressive power in the quadrant, and is
regarded as a turning point in the history surrounding the formation of the
Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and the fall of the Terran Empire due to the
powerful effect it had on important figures Intendant Spock and the Emporer
Tiberius the First, James Kirk, who were both serving on this vessel at the
time. ("Mirror, Mirror"
[TOS #39]).

attack cruiser, Empire registry NCC-1701-D. In one possible permutation
of the mirror universe timeline, this vessel was commanded by Jean-Luc

the mirror universe portray Terran Empire as having fallen long before
the inception of the Galaxy-class, so Duane's "Dark Mirror" novel
must take place in yet another alternate timeline of the mirror universe.

universe, the faux Enterprise was confiscated by Starfleet Intelligence, given
the secret tracking number registry NX-1701. ("Preserver" [Pocket: Shatner]).

Navy registry CVN-60. Commissioned on November 25, 1961 and serving into the
21st century, the Enterprise was one of the most powerful ships of its
time. In 1986, the Enterprise was docked at the Alameda Naval Base in San
Francisco when it was breached by an apparent Russian spy. The "spy" was
time-traveler Commander Pavel Chekov, who had been collecting nuclear radiation
from the ship's reactor to recrystallize dilithium for a captured Klingon
Bird-of-Prey. ("The Voyage Home" [Movie #4]). In Star Trek IV, the "part" of
the Enterprise was actually filled by the U.S.S. Ranger (CV-61),
because the Enterprise was on deployment at the time of the movie's
filming.

Terran spaceship, NX-class,
Earth Starfleet registry NX-01. The Enterprise was launched from the Warp 5
Complex's drydock on April 12, 2151 under the command of Captain Jonathan
Archer. Enterprise was the first vessel to be equipped with
the Warp 5 Drive devised by Henry Archer and Zefram Cochrane, and built
under the supervision of Henry's son, Jonathan, who took command of the
vessel after its completion. It was the first long range manned space
exploration probe mission
undertaken by the people of Earth following that worlds Third World War
90 years previous, and was an historic step towards the formation of the United
Federation of Planets Starfleet ten years later. ("Broken Bow" [ENT #1]).

Federation starship, Constitution-class
heavy cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-1701. Commanded by Captains Robert
T. April (2245-2250); Christopher R. Pike (2251-2263); James T. Kirk (2264-2269,
2272-2277); Willard Decker (2269-2272) and Spock (2277-2285). Commissioned
in 2245, built at Starfleet's San Francisco spaceyards on Terra. The Enterprise
was the second Constitution-class vessel constructed, and the first
to be completed under the supervision of the new starship program's Captain
April. The Enterprise was rushed into service to rescue the transport
S.S.
Rosenberg, which was trapped within an ion storm, with April
choosing his friend George Kirk to be temporary first officer and Sarah
Poole as chief surgeon. Any other starship would have taken months to skirt
the storm and reach the colony ship, but the prototype Enterprise
would only require a short period of time to travel straight through the
storm. One of the engineers involved in the construction of the vessel
was a Romulan spy, who sabotaged the guidance system to take the ship across
the Neutral Zone when warp was engaged. Captain April chose not to reveal
to Starfleet Command the passage through Romulan space and their subsequent
encounter with Romulan forces. The ship was then officially commissioned
with April as the first captain. During April's command, a young James
Kirk came aboard as a passenger with his father in 2250, and the two ended
up in a runabout with Captain April on a scientific survey that was attacked
by space pirates. The brave actions of the fifteen year old Kirk ended
up saving the day.
 The
first five-year mission of the Enterprise is known for tremendous
advances in the field of exploration and is credited for much of the advance
in the space sciences that have taken place in the mid 23rd century. The
xeno-medical studies of medical officer Sarah April (nee Poole) greatly
increased Federation knowledge of alien bio-systems. Upon the end of his
first five year mission, April was promoted to commodore and he named Christopher
Pike, commander of the Yorktown, as his successor. Pike commanded
two five year missions on the Enterprise. During his command, the
vessel explored the Pathiad Nebulatae, recovered the long lost "Vulcan's
Glory" artifact and was present at Rigel VII's admission to the Federation.
In 2254 the ship was bound for Vega to hospitalize crewmen injured on Rigel
VII when they recieved a distress call from the S.S.
Columbia which
had been lost on planet Talos IV eighteen years previous. This was a ruse,
and the ship then made first contact with the Talosian species and it was
on Pike's recommendation that Talos IV was quarantined under penalty of
death due to the extreme danger of the Talosian's illusion casting powers.
Under Pike's command the vessel was involved in several crucial confrontations
with the Chakuun and the Klingons, most notably the I.K.S.
Varchas
commanded by Kaaj. Pike was promoted to fleet captain in the early 2260s and command
of the ship was given to James Tiberius Kirk. The Enterprise, under Kirk's
command, is perhaps one of the most legendary expeditions in Federation
history. All of Kirk's missions and commands are required reading at Starfleet
Academy and Kirk himself is lauded as one of Starfleets greatest heroes.
His main crew consisted of First Officer Spock (who doubled as Chief of
Sciences), Ship's Surgeon Leonard McCoy, Engineer Scott, Helmsman Sulu,
Navigator Chekov, Astrotelemetrist Uhura, Nurse Chapel, Yeoman Rand, Lieutenant
Kyle and Lieutenant Leslie. While his mission and returning crew are cheered
by the public, Kirk points out it was not without flaws, as 96 men and
women died under his command over the course of those five years. During
his command the Enterprise became the first Federation ship known to leave the
galaxy, and made contact with dozens of new species including the First
Federation, the Thasians, the Horta, the Eminians, the Betans, the Keepers
of Vaal, the Andromedan androids, the Magna Romans, the Triskelions, the
Iotians, the Kelvans, the Arretians, the Omegans, the Melkot, the Sigma
Draconians, the Vians, the Fabrini of Yonada, the Platonians, the Scalosians,
and the Excalbians. The
Enterprise also contacted such powerful
beings as Trelane, the Squire of Gothos and Apollo of Pollux IV. In military
action, Enterprise headed off a Romulan offensive in the Neutral Zone,
the first contact with them in almost a century. The ship was later
involved in more Romulan skirmishes as well as being point vessel when
war broke out with the Klingons in 2266, leading the the historic Organian
Peace Treaty. The ship also found itself involved in conflicts with Orions,
the Gorn and the Tholians. At
the end of Kirk's five-year mission he was promoted to Admiral and made
chief of Starfleet Operations. He named Captain Willard Decker as the supervisor
of the Enterprise's refit, which would bring it up to new specifications
(unofficially known as the "Enterprise-subclass" although it was technically
still a Constitution-class ship). It was intended that Decker would remain
on as captain after the work was complete. However, as the vessel
was preparing for final systems checks, the V'Ger cloud was detected heading
towards Earth and it was decided the Enterprise, under Kirk's command,
would intercept it. Decker remained aboard as Kirk's executive but was
listed as "missing" when he bonded with the computer entity in control
of V'Ger in order to free the ship. The ship was officially recommissioned
and recrewed with Admiral Kirk in command. Kirk commanded the vessel for
another expedition before being assigned to a new post at Starfleet Command. After Kirk returned to his desk job, Captain Spock took command of the
vessel, which had been assigned as a cadet training ship. After an encounter
with Khan Noonien Singh on a training cruise, and the subsequent battle with
(and destruction of) the commandeered starship Reliant, the Enterprise returned
to Earth and at that time it was decided that the vessel would be decommissioned
due to the extreme damage caused by that altercation. Admiral Kirk and
his senior officers requested permission to take the vessel out in order
to recover Captain Spock's body on the newly formed Genesis Planet. When
denied, they commandeered the vessel, and it was there at Genesis
that the vessel was destroyed while in battle with Kruge's bird-of-prey.
Kirk and his crew escaped the ship, but most of Kruge's crew had boarded

Federation starship, Enterprise-class
heavy cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-1701-A. Commanded by James T. Kirk,
the second Federation starship to bear the name Enterprise. Commissioned
in 2286, the Enterprise-A was a newly built vessel that was contracted
as a replacement for the aging starship Yorktown. During the final
phases of the construction process, a special exception was granted by
the Federation council to rename the vessel Enterprise. The ship
was assigned to the command of Captain Kirk and his original Enterprise
command crew shortly after the conclusion of hearings dealing with the
matter of their disobedience regarding the original Enterprise during the
Genesis affair.
 Captain
Kirk's recent accomplishment of virtually saving the planet Earth in the
Whalesong crisis weighed hevily on this decision. After an initial shakedown
cruise, it was determined the vessel required further maintenance and the
crew was assigned shore leave until 2287. The ship served for seven years
before being decommissioned after severe damage in 2293. Among the missions
it participated in were the rescue of hostages taken by Sybok on Nimbus
III and the historic Khitomer accords that made peace with the Klingons.

Federation starship, Excelsior-class,
Starfleet registry NCC-1701-B. Commanded by John Harriman, Jr. Third starship
to bear the name Enterprise, commissioned in 2293. While on a shakedown
cruise the Enterprise-B recieved a distress call from the transport
ship Lakul, which had become trapped in the Nexus energy ribbon
along with two other ships. The Enterprise-B, despite being understaffed
and unequipped, managed to save many of the ship's passengers including
Tolian Soran and Guinan. Unfortunately the operation cost the lives of
several officers including onboard guest James T. Kirk. ("Generations"
[Movie #7]).

Federation starship, Ambassador-class,
Starfleet registry NCC-1701-C. Commanded by Rachel Garrett, the fourth
starship to bear the name. The Enterprise-C was lost with all hands
in 2344 when Captain Garrett responded to a distress call from the Klingon
colony Narendra III. There they were engaged by several Romulan warbirds
and destroyed, although the Romulans took some prisoners. This incident
created a new precedent in Klingon-Federation relations that forged the
peace accord into a true alliance. ("Yesterday's Enterprise" [TNG #63]).

explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-1701-D. Commanded by Jean-Luc Picard.
Fifth starship to bear the name, commissioned on stardate 40753 in 2363.

at Farpoint" [TNG #1&2]). In "Encounter at Farpoint" a 1701-D ensign
was played by Evelyn Guerrero, and a security guard was played by Timothy
Dang. In "Emissary," the lieutenant at the conn of the 1701-D was played
by Megan Butler and the transporter chief was played by April Grace.

a Federation starship, Enterprise-class explorer, Starfleet
registry NCC-1701-F. The seventh Enterprise was commanded by Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, who was later succeeded by Captain William Riker. The vessel was
lost with all hands, including Tom Paris, Geordi LaForge and Deanna Troi
when the Grigari destroyed Earth in 2388. ("The War of the Prophets"
[Pocket DS9 Millennium #2]). Of course, since the
Defiant was returned
to its own time and the red wormholes were destroyed, the War of the Prophets
will not come to pass and the history which led up to the construction
of this vessel is aborted.

Commanded by Commodore Data, the seventh starship to bear the name, with a

this ship existed in was replaced by a new one after the 2368 death of
Deanna Troi was averted.

led the Federation defeat of the Sphere Builders at Procyon V sometime around
