While exploring the edge of the magnetic storm, the Galileo became trapped in an enrgy field and was shot towards the center of the effect, crash landing on Taurus II. Crewmembers Gaetano and Latimer were killed by creatures there before Spock, McCoy, Scott, Mears and Boma were able to lift the craft off and escape to the atmosphere. They were beamed off the shuttle by the Enterprise just before it burned up on reentry, after Spock set off the ships fuel as a flare. ("The Galileo Seven" [TOS]). The Galileo shuttlecraft was built by AMT models, who funded the contruction in exchange for the rights to merchandise the design. The shuttle miniature and full-scale mockup were later reused as another Galileo, the Galileo II and the shuttle Columbus. One discrepancy between the full size mockup and the interior set was that the set had head-room for standing up, the model did not. "The Menagerie" [TOS] revealed this craft is known as a Class F administrative shuttle.

Before construction was authorized, this vessel was assigned to be built as NCC-62501, it was later reappropriated and the registry became NCC-69302. Commanded by Captain Gregory MacCray, the Geronimo was on station at Starbase 12 for combat simulations. The Geronimo was destroyed in battle with Cardassian forces in the Chin'toka system in 2374. Federation starship proposed during the 23rd century. This vessel's construction was cancelled, and it's registry was assigned to another vessel. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]). It's possible ships of these names were still built, of different classes and registry numbers. If built, this ship would have been Achernar-class, with the registry NCC-1749, according to the manuals.
