Kirk, James Tiberius.
Terran starship captain, retired, Starfleet serial number SC 937-0176 CEC. Kirk was the previous commander of the starships Oxford, Lydia Sutherland, Enterprise and Enterprise-A.
Kirk, a human of Terran descent, was born in Riverside, Iowa in 2233 to George Samuel and Winona Kirk. In 2246 at the age of thirteen, Kirk took his first trip off Earth, and on a stopover on Tarsus IV on his way to visit his father's Starbase, witnessed the massacre of some four-thousand colonists by Kodos the Executioner. He was one of nine surviving witnesses to the slaughter, along with a young Kevin Riley, whose life he saved. This early experience colored Kirk with a negative attitude about leaving Earth. By the age of sixteen, Kirk had run away from home several times, trying to stow away on various sea vessels. This led to his father taking him on a trip to visit his godfather, Captain Robert April of the Enterprise. Kirk ended up saving his father and several of the Enterprise's officers when their shuttle was attacked by pirates on a routine archaeological excursion to Faramond. After this experience, Kirk decided to join Starfleet Academy. Kirk's father disappeared mysteriously a few years later when the starship William Jennings Bryant disappeared. Kirk had an older brother, George Samuel junior, who along with Kirk's sister-in-law Aurelan, fell victim to neural parasites on Deneva in 2266. They were survived by Kirk's three nephews. Kirk's mother, widowed, cared for the family farm until one of the buildings burned in 2283. The stress of this event was attributed as the cause of the pneumonia she succumbed to six months later. Kirk had a son, David, with Carol Marcus in 2262. At Carol's request, Kirk did not take part in raising his son and had no contact with him until 2285, when Kirk rescued Carol and David, both working on the Genesis Project, from Khan.  David was murdered shortly thereafter on the Genesis Planet by Kruge. Carol Marcus was later severely wounded when the research outpost on Themis was attacked by the experimental bird-of-prey Dakronh, commanded by Chang. Kirk nearly married a woman named Antonia whom he met in the 2280s, but instead chose to remain in Starfleet.
During his Academy days, Kirk was tormented by an upperclassman named Sean Finnegan, who frequently chose Kirk as a target for his practical jokes. Kirk distinguished himself at the Academy on the Axanar Peace Mission while serving a training cruise on the starship Republic in his sophomore year, and was commissioned as an officer.  Afterwards, Ensign Kirk logged a mistake by his friend Benjamin Finney that almost destroyed the Republic. Finney blamed Kirk for his subsequent inability to gain command positions. When promoted to lieutenant in his third year, Kirk served as an instructor and his friend, freshman Cadet  Gary Mitchell, was one of his students. Mitchell once said that in Kirk's class "you think or you sink." Mitchell, attempting to soften his friend, set Kirk up with "little blond lab tech" Carol Marcus, whom Kirk almost married. One of Kirk's heroes while at the Academy was Captain Garth of Izar, whose exploits are required reading.  Another of Kirk's personal heroes was Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States of America on Earth. At the Academy, Kirk earned a reputation as the only cadet ever to beat the "no-win" Kobayashi Maru training scenario. He did it by secretly reprogramming the computer to make it possible to win, earning a commendation for original thinking in the process.
Kirk's first assignment after graduating from the Academy was the starship Farragut, under Captain Garrovick. His first assignment was in the ship's cargo bays, and Garrovick proceeded to train the young officer in all departments of the vessel, including away missions, engineering and weapons among others.  One of his first missions was command of a survey mission to Neural, where he met Tyree in 2254. While they served  on the Farragut, Gary Mitchell took a poison dart meant for Kirk on the planet Dimorus, saving Kirk's life. Mitchell was saved by Mark Piper, who later became Kirk's medical officer on the Enterprise. At some point, Kirk almost died of Vegan choriomeningitis. While battling pirates of Epsilon Canaris III, a collapsed support crushed Kirk's knee and shattered his thigh. Kirk received a Decoration for Valor for staying at his post despite the pain of his injuries. He was taken to Starbase 7 for four months of rehabilitation, under the supervision of Lieutenant Leonard McCoy. After that, he took leave on Centaurus and bought a large plot of land he later named Garrovick Valley after his former captain. In 2257, the Farragut was attacked by a dikironium cloud creature at Tycho IV and 200 of her crew, including their captain, died. Kirk took command of the vessel until the first officer could retake the bridge. While Commander Chenowyth, the first officer, commended Kirk for his actions, Kirk blamed his own hesitation in firing phasers for those deaths. While the Farragut made it's way back to the Federation along the Romulan Neutral Zone, it was set upon by extradimensional parasites and it was necessary to scuttle it's secondary hull and separate the saucer. Kirk and Vulcan scientist T'Cel manually separated the ship and escaped in a lifeboat, and Kirk was found on Watchtower Outpost 13 along the Neutral Zone. During the attacks Kirk reinjured his knee, and was again treated by Leonard McCoy on Earth. Lieutenant Kirk served as second officer and helmsman of the starship Constitution, teamed with navigator Gary Mitchell.  It was in this capacity that Kirk first commanded a mission when the captain and executive officer were indisposed. Promoted to lieutenant commander, Kirk served for a short time as second officer of the starship Aeolus. Lt. Cmdr. Kirk was in command of a detail on the planet Shad, and was involved in evacuating the royal family of the planet Shad to the starship Normandy when Klingon influence ignited a civil war there. Kirk was later made commander, serving as first officer of the starship Eagle along with his friend Carol Marcus. After his tour on the Eagle, Commander Kirk was given command of the U.S.S. Lydia Sutherland, which he lost with most of it's crew at the battle of Ghioghe. Kirk managed to save his friend Gary Mitchell and several others, but he injured his knee a third time, and recuperated on Earth until his next assignment as captain of the starship Enterprise. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1], et al.).  Played by William Shatner.
Kirk, James Tiberius (mirror).
In the mirror universe, captain of the Terran Empire starship I.S.S. Enterprise. Kirk assumed command of the Enterprise through the assassination of Captain Christopher Pike.  Kirk's first action as captain was to suppress a Gorlan uprising by destroying a rebel home home planet. His second action was the execution of 5,000 colonists on Vega IX. The mirror Kirk was transposed with our Kirk in 2267 when an ion storm caused a brief bridge between universes.
In one permutation of their universe, Kirk was eliminated by the mirror Spock shortly after his return, who then took command of the mirror Enterprise. ("Mirror, Mirror" [TOS #39]).  Played by William Shatner.
Kirk, Jamie Samantha.
Ensign on Deep Space Nine in 2370.  Kirk was invoved in a research project on an energy conducting artifact found in the Gamma Quadrant when a Romulan delegation was aboard the station.  Jannek, the Romulan ambassador,  was the son of the Romulan commander who faced Jamie's ancestor James T. Kirk at the first 23rd century Romulan/Federation encounter at Icarus IV.  This was a point of conflict as his family still has a grudge against the Kirk family.  ("Blood and Honor" [Malibu DS9 Celebrity Series #1]).  Jamie could not be a direct descendant of James Kirk, whose only son David was killed at Genesis I.  It seems likely she is descended from one of Jim's three nephews, the sons of his late brother George Samuel junior.
