The Mercury's top speed was warp 12 on the old scale, and the ship was armed with one torpedo launcher and six phaser emitters. This vessel's complement is 105 crewpeople. Mercury, U.S.S.: Federation starship, commanded by Captain Carter Brisbayne. The Mercury was assigned to ferry Commander Deanna Troi to contact several alien governments as an emissary of the Federation for negotiations regarding the Iconian gateway incursions of 2376. Miranda-class.: Type of Federation starship classified as a heavy frigate. This class consists of a saucer section (similar to that of the refit Constitution-class) with an extended rear section to accomodate stardrive and docking systems and two warp nacelles located below the main hull. The original specifications have a upper roll bar fitted with a torpedo launcher, but later variants (aka the unofficial "Cyane-class") are without this modification. These ships are based on a refit design of the Surya and Coventry classes of starships. Ships of this type have included the Miranda, Pacific, Reliant, Hoagland; Saratoga; Zephyr and the variants Cyane, Lantree and Saratoga II. ("The Wrath of Khan" [Movie #2]).
Miri.: ("Miri" [TOS #11]).
Mirok.: Romulan science officer. ("The Next Phase" [TNG #124]). Played by Thomas Kopache. Kopache also portrayed a communications officer on the starship Enterprise-B in "Generations" [Movie #7].
mirror universe.: Alternate universe. In the 23rd century this universe bore a striking similarity to our own, with the Federation existing instead as a conquering tyranny known as the Terran Empire. Many starships were crewed by duplicates of inhabitants of our universe, such as James Tiberius Kirk's starship I.S.S. Enterprise. Mitchel.: Starfleet captain who commanded a dreadnought-type vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. (Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). The game software put each captain name in command of a random vessel each time the game was played.
Mitchell, Gary.: Starfleet lieutenant commander, navigator of the starship Enterprise in 2264. ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1]; "Enterprise: The First Adventure" [Pocket Giant #1]). Played Gary Lockwood.

Mohindas, Sita.: Starfleet lieutenant, a career minded officer who served as helm officer and fourth-in-command of the starship of the starship Enterprise under the command of Christopher Pike. Mohindas, the daughter of acclaimed Federation diplomat Rajiv Mohindas, was given the position of acting first officer when Number One was placed in command after Pike, Spock and Boyce went on a classified cultural observation mission. ("Flesh of my Flesh" [Marvel EV #1], et al.).
Mojavé.: City on the planet Terra, the home of Christopher Pike. The city was an ultra-modern design, but acres of parkland outside the area had been reclaimed in a natural state. Young Pike used to enjoy packing a lunch and riding his horse in the forests and plains on the outskirts of the urban area. ("The Cage" [TOS unaired pilot]).
Mojov Station.: ("House of Cards" [Pocket NF #1]).
Molock, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Siva-class destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-522. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Mololod.: Star vessel of the Lom, commanded by Decisionary Obol. ("Directives" [Marvel Unlimited #1]).
Montmorency Monograph.: ("The Lesson" [DC TNG vol.2 #19]).
Moose, Dan.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Moqausites.: ("Dujonian's Hoard" [Pocket Captain's Table #2]).
Monaghan.: Capain of the freighter Halloran. Captain Monaghan unknowingly ventured through an Iconian gateway in 2376 while on the Jovian run through the Sol system. Her vessel emerged in the Kar-telos system in the Gamma Quadrant, but was rescued by a runabout from Deep Space Nine through the Bajoran wormhole. In return, Captain Monaghan granted the use of her vessel to the Europa Nova evacuation effort. ("Demons of Air and Darkness" [Pocket DS9 Gateways]).
Monitor, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1713. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Monitor, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Nebula-class explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-61826. Second starship to bear the name. Quintin Stone once served on this vessel. ("The Defector" [TNG #58]; "A Rock and a Hard Place" [Pocket TNG #10]).
Monitor, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Defiant-class escort. Third starship to bear the name, commanded by Captain John Lewinsky. ("The Return" [Pocket TOS HC #10]).
Monoceros-class.: Type of Federation starship, classified as a scout. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Monoceros, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Monoceros-class scout, Starfleet registry NCC-601. First vessel of its type constructed. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
monotanium.: Metallic substance, extremely difficult to purify. Monotanium is rare, although the hulls of some Hirogen starships are made entirely of this sophisticated substance. ("Demons of Air and Darkness" [Pocket DS9 Gateways]).
Montaya, Ulysses: Captain of the USS Zimbabwe since stardate 5621.3. He graduated from Starfleet Academy as 5th of his class. He served as ensign and lieutenant aboard the USS Jersey, as lieutenant commander aboard the USS Cenurix, and as commander and XO aboard the USS Regulus. He earned 9 Starfleet citations. ("Judgment Rites" [Interplay TOS]).
Montgomery.: Starfleet captain who commanded an cruiser-type vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. (Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). The game software put each captain name in command of a random vessel each time the game was played.
Montoya.: Starfleet commodore. She ordered the Enterprise-A to divert to Starbase 12 in 2293. ("Shadows on the Sun" [Pocket TOS]).
Moose, Dan.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Mordreaux, Georges.: Federation theoretical physicist. ("The Entropy Effect" [Pocket TOS #2]).
Mo'Rel, Nataan.: Federation physicist, a Bolian, who was aboard the starship Ranger in 2292. ("New Worlds" [Interplay TOS]).
Morgen.: King of the Federation ally planet Daa'V. Morgen previously served in Starfleet, the first of his race to do so. He had been captain of the starship Excalibur, although he started his career as an ensign on Jean-Luc Picard's Stargazer. ("Reunion" [Pocket TNG HC #1]).
Morn.: ("Emissary" [DS9 #1&2]; "Prophets and Losses" [DC TNG/DS9 #1]). Played by Mark Shepherd.
Morwood, Diane.: Third in command of engineering of the starship Farragut in the 2250s. Morwood was captured and cocooned by alien creature that assaulted that vessel shortly after most of its crew had been wiped out by the Tycho cloud. Her RNA patterns and genetic material were preserved in another dimension, and her conciousness warned her old friend Jim Kirk that the creatures would attack his ship, the Enterprise-A, over 30 years later when he faced them in battle. ("Debt of Honor" [DC Graphic Novel #1]).
Mosby-class.: Type of Federation starship, operated under the authority of Starfleet Intelligence in the first fifty years after the founding of Starfleet. The Mosby class was a scout ship designed for high speed and reconaissance operations. The vessels of this type broke all Starfleet speed records for the time period, achieving warp factor 6.84 in secretly performed trials. (Star Fleet Intelligence--Agent's Orientation Sourcebook [FASA RPG]). The original text claimed that the vessel's highest speed was warp 3.84, but this is contradicted by the fact that the Enterprise NX-01 was a warp 5 ship. I have changed the number to a more appropriate 6.84 to reflect this fact.

Moulton, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Dollond-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3905. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Mount Pleasant.: ("The Enemy of My Enemy" [Marvel TNG Riker Special #1]).
Moves-With-Burning-Grace.: Chief engineer of the starship Enterprise during Christopher Pike's command. ("Flesh of my Flesh" [Marvel EV #1], et al.).
Moytulix.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
M'Pella.: ("In the Pale Moonlight" [DS9 #143]).
M'Ress.: Caitian Starfleet lieutenant, the assistant science officer on the starship Trident, under the command of Elizabeth Shelby. M'Ress had been serving on the starship Einstein in 2296 when she was trapped in a time-portal while exploring the ruins of Ceti Alpha VI and was deposited in the 24th century, about 80 years later. She requested that the Temporal Displacement Office place her in a new assignment aboard a starship. M'Ress had previously served under the command of Captain Kirk on the starships Enterprise and Enterprise-A as relief communications officer and relief science officer. ("The Survivor" [TAS #5]; "Cold Wars" [Pocket Gateways #6]; "Passage to Moauv" [Peter Pan Book & Record Audio]).

Mudd, Stella.: Wife of Harry Mudd. ("I, Mudd" [TOS #41]).
Mueller, Katarina.: Second officer of the starship Excalibur. She had previously served aboard the Grissom. ("Once Burned" [Pocket Captain's Table #5]).
mugato.: Type of lifeform native to the planet Neural. ("A Private Little War" [TOS #45]; "Fire on High" [Pocket NF #6]). Played by Janos Prohaska.
Muller, Liex.: Starfleet construction engineer. ("Battlestations!" [Pocket TOS #31]).

Mutara Nebula.: Dust cloud in the Mutara sector. ("The Wrath of Khan" [Movie #2]).
Mutara sector.: Area of space, adjacent to the Fries-Posnikoff sector. Proximal to Klingon space, the nearest outpost to the Mutara sector is Starbase 12. This is the location of the Regula system, and the former Mutara nebula. This is where the starship Enterprise found the S.S. Botany Bay in 2266. ("The Wrath of Khan" [Movie #2]).

mutual induction field.: ("Battle Lines" [DS9 #13]).

mycorrhizal fungus.: ("The Wire" [DS9 #42]).
myocardial enzyme balance.: Medical test performed during Picard's cardiac replacement surgery. ("Samaritan Snare" [TNG #43]).
myographic scanner.: Scanning device in Federation escape pods designed to locate the occupants should they disembark from the pod. ("Legacy" [TNG #80]).
Myori.: Science officer on the starship Lafayette. She was on the bridge when that vessel was nearly destroyed by the Tyrion Legion. ("Partners?" [DC TOS vol.2 #17&18]).
M'Yra.: Lieutenant on the starship Einstein. M'Yra is from a species with lavender skin, large ram-like horns and a tail, and she previously served on the starship Enterprise-A. She was attracted to Commander Sulu, a situation which caused some discomfort to Lieutenant Li, whom he was dating. ("The Return!" [DC TOS vol.2 #1]). Luckily for Sulu, Paramount declared that supporting characters and subplots have no place in their comics and whisked her away to the Einstein before he was torn apart. Unfortunately this also made the comic dreadfully uninteresting.
Myrmidon.: Planet where Vash is wanted by authorities for stealing the crown of the First Mother. ("Q-Less" [DS9 #7]).
