Reber, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Doppler-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3892. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Recamier, Makita: Contributor to the publication Starship Tactics, who supplied material to the 2290 edition of Ships of the Star Fleet concerning the starship Belknap. (Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]).
recorder marker.: ("Where No Man Has Gone Before" [TOS #1]; "The Corbomite Maneuver" [TOS #2]).
Red Barn.: Space vessel that took part in the Belle Terre expedition in the 2270s, a commercial cattle carrier commanded by Captain Kej. ("Wagon Train to the Stars" [Pocket New Earth #1]).
red sector.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Redbay, Samuel: Starfleet lieutenant. ("The Soldiers of Fear" [Pocket TNG #41]).
Redoubt, U.S.S.: Federation starship. ("Flesh of My Flesh" [Marvel EV #1]).
redshirt.: Nickname given to Starfleet security in the twenty third century, based on the color of their uniforms and the dangerousness of their profession. Reed, Malcom.: Ordnance officer of the spaceship Enterprise, a British munitions specialist. ("Broken Bow" [ENT #1&2). Played by Dominic Keating.
Reese.: Starfleet command officer who captained a destroyer-type vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. (Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). The game software put each captain name in command of a random vessel each time the game was played.
Regal III.: Planet near Brundage Station with skiing resorts and accomodations. ("The Soldiers of Fear" [Pocket TNG #41]).
Reginod.: ("Samaritan Snare" [TNG #43]). Played by Leslie Morris.
registry.: In most cultures, space vessels (and other types of vehicles) are assigned names and/or numbers to denote their construction and track them. Federation starships are registered on the basis of the serial numeration of their Naval Construction Contract, or NCC. Starships are not registered sequentially based on their commissioning, but instead are assigned a hull NCC number at the point when the Federation council files the contract to assign resources to build the vessel. If a vessel takes a long time to have construction completed or is delayed or financially frozen, it may be commissioned much later than vessels with higher NCC numbers. For example, the starship Prometheus, was first allocated for design as unnamed prototype NX-59621 in the 2350s, but the design process was put on hold and cancelled before being reactivated in the late 2360s. When the vessel was finally named and commissioned in 2374 its registry number was much lower than other contemporary starships. A starship's registry number or registered name may only be changed via a special dispensation by the Federation council or a board of Admirals, and is usually done in honor of a courageous captain, crew or deed. The same process applies for changing the number to carry a letter suffix to honor the previous vessel of that name. Registered starships carrying a letter suffix counter to the standard NCC numbering system have only occurred 23 times in over two centuries of Starfleet shipbuilding. Dispensations have been granted to the starships Enterprise, Etzel, Excalibur, Intrepid, Constellation, Tubman, Stargazer, Saratoga, Bozeman, Yamato. While new starships Enterprise and Yamato still carry subsequent letter suffixes (ex. NCC-1701-B, C, etc.), others returned to standard numbering after having one vessel carry that registry (for example, the second starship Intrepid was numbered NCC-1631-A in honor of the sacrifice of original Intrepid crewmembers but the later starships Intrepid have retained subsequent registries such as NCC-38907). These explanations, of course, are mostly conjecture. The fact remains that, even though NCC-registries are roughly sequential and chronological, there are many exceptions to that rule, going back to the first time a registry besides the Enterprise was seen, the Constellation NCC-1017.

Regulans.: ("Cloak" [Pocket TOS Section 31]).
Regulus, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1840. Ulysses Montaya served aboard this ship. (Technical Manual [TOS]; "Judgment Rites" [Interplay TOS]). The Regulus listed in the Technical Manual was one of dozens of Constitution-class ships, but it seems more likely the name and number could have been used for another type of ship.
Regulus III.: Planet that was the home of the Regulan species that Ambassador R'kgg belonged to. ("The Haunting of Thallus" [Marvel TOS #4]). Obviously not the home of the standoffish Regulan mentioned in "The Fires of Pharos" [Marvel EV #2].
Regulus XI.: Planet known to be a bountiful source of dilithium crystals. ("Rest & Recreation" [DC TOS vol.2 #18]).
Rehabilitation Colony Seven.: Penal institution located in the Aleph star system. Georges Mordreaux was scheduled to be taken here in an alternate timeline in 2268. ("The Entropy Effect" [Pocket TOS #2]).
Rekk Devra Kilrune.: ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).

Relay Station 47.: ("Aquiel" [TNG]).

Reliant, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Miranda-class heavy frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-1864. ("The Wrath of Khan" [Movie #2]).
Relka.: ("No Man's Land" [Pocket VGR Gateways #5]).
Remaad.: ("Bridges" [Dc TNG vol.2]).
Remmick, Dexter.: ("Coming of Age" [TNG]; "Conspiracy" [TNG]).
Remmler Array.: ("Starship Mine" [TNG]).
Remus.: Federation name for ch'Havran, one of the homeworlds of the Rihannsu people at the center of the Romulan Star Empire. ("Balance of Terror" [TOS]).

Renaissance-class.: Type of Federation starship, a heavy cruiser. A modification of components from the Ambassador-class design, the Renaissance-class was created in the early 24th century to replace aging Constitution and Excelsior-class starships in the fleet's heavy cruiser role. This class has proven proficient in extreme long range exploration. Ships of this class include the Aries, Hornet and, presumably, the Renaissance. (Conjecture).
Renaissance, U.S.S.: Federation starship, prototype for the Renaissance-class. (Conjecture).
Renegade, U.S.S.: Federation starship, New Orleans-class frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-63102. Commanded by Captain Tryla Scott. The Renegade was one of the ships that met the Enterprise-D at Dytallix B in late 2364. ("Conspiracy" [TNG #25]).
Republic, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Baton Rouge-class cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-1371. In the 2250s the Republic was assigned as a training vessel, where Ensigns James T. Kirk and Benjamin Finney served a training cruise on this ship. Kirk discovered an error by Finney, an open circuit that could have destroyed the ship. Finney's career never recovered after Kirk logged the blunder. Kirk served on this ship in another exercise at the planet Yannid VI. During a rebel uprising, a wild shot from Kirk accidentally hit Prince Arlph, causing fierce anti-Federation sentiment on the world, although Kirk was cleared of any wrongdoing. This vessel was placed in active service for a time in the 2260s, under the command of Captain Richard Patterson. Some of its non-classified assignments were transport of an investigating committee to Vardaine, sensor scans of the remains of the Gadani II supernova. In 2269 the Republic visited Starbase 6 along with the starships Bakker, Enterprise, Eagle, Dauntless and Fermat for a captain's conference presided by Admiral Aaron L.T. Stone, when a band of Klingon mercenaries hijacked the station. Under the command of Captain Manchu, the Republic was dispatched to the Altair system to aid after the devesation caused by Nagha. The Republic was permantently removed from active duty and made a cadet training facility, without a Starfleet registry, in the early 2270s. The hull of this vessel serves this purpose well into the next century. ("Court Martial [TOS]; "Valiant" [DS9]; "Judgment Rites" [Interplay TOS]; "The Enterprise Murder Case" [Marvel TOS #4]; "Action of the Tiger" [Marvel Unlimited #2]; "The Sleeping God" [Bantam TOS 'New Voyages II' compilation]; Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]; Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]; Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The FASA role-playing series and the Interplay games list this vessel's registry as NCC-1373 for some reason. The Okuda Encyclopedia characterizes the Republic as Constitution-class, as do the novels by Friedman, although the old Marvel comic pictured the vessel as a Baton Rouge-class ship, which is more in keeping with its registry era. It is unclear at this time whether it was intended to be Constitution-class as featured in "Court-Martial." "Action of the Tiger" pictured several starships, and it is unclear which was supposed to represent the Republic, although there was at least one other Constitution-class vessel besides the Enterprise was present (which may have represented the Eagle).
Republic, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a cutter, commanded by Captain Anton DeSalle. The Republic was one of the vessels assigned to escort the Belle Terre expedition in the 2270s. ("Wagon Train to the Stars" [Pocket New Earth #1]). Presumably this vessel could exist as named because the previous Republic was a training ship only, and no longer in commission.
Repulse, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Excelsior-class cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-2544. Commanded by Captain Ariel Taggert. Named for the Terran naval vessel Repulse from that planets Second World War. While previously under the command of Captain Taggert, Katherine Pulaski served as chief medical officer of this vessel. Captain Taggert was succeeded in command by his daughter Ariel in 2366. The Repulse was one of the starships that was involved in a showdown between three Borg vessels and a planet killer in 2367. ("The Child" [TNG #27]; "Unnatural Selection" [TNG]; "Vendetta" [Pocket TNG Giant #2]).
Restin.: Medical assistant on the starship Enterprise-D. ("The Soldiers of Fear" [Pocket TNG #41]).
Revere, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Hermes-class scout, Starfleet registry NCC-595. The Revere was ordered to rendezvous with the starship Columbia in 2272 by Commodore Probert. ("The Motion Picture" [Movie #1]).
Reyab.: Kobliad transport vessel.
Reyga.
Rhiv.: Skedan, mate to Tamaak Vriis. Rhiv was killed when the Borg assimilated their homeworld. ("Seven of Nine" [Pocket VGR #16]).
Rhode Island, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Nova-class scout. In an alternate future timeline, this vessel was commanded by Harry Kim in the year 2404. ("Endgame" [VGR]).
Rhodes.: Planet in the Gamma 400 star system, the home of a large Federation settlement, and also the location of Starbase 12. This planet was nearly ravaged by a Klingon attack in 2278, but the destroyer sent was deflected in the Typhon Expanse by the patrol cutter Bozeman, which disappeared during that action. ("Ship of the Line" [Pocket TNG]).
Rhulian flu.: A virus which exists in the twenty-fourth century. While dangerous, the Rhulian flu is easily contained and cured if treated. In 2364 a genetically tailored version of Rhulian flu was created the could break down into three sub-viral components called prions and break containment fields and biofilter regimens. This plaque was unleashed onto Archaria III, where it only infected those members of the population of mixed genetic heritage. The message "Smile, you are dead" was discovered written in the strands of the virus, proving that it was artificial. The disease on Archaria was cured when a fourth prion was replicated to render the other three inert when they all combined. The disease was planted by Solomon, and agent of the Orion Syndicate who worked for General Thul. Versions of this infection using multiprion infection were later unleashed on Terok Nor and Bajor, another version tailored to the DNA of the Romulan royal family, and then this version again on Helena. ("Infection" [Pocket TNG #51]).
Rhul'Jai.: Ketiran, leader of the Sancti. ("Homeworld" [DC TOS vol.2 Annual #3]).
Riccioli, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Keppler-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3823. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Richter Scale.: ("Mortal Gods" [DC TOS #5]).
Rigel, Ruth.: ("Death's Angel" [Bantam TOS]).
Rigel II.: Second planet in the Rigel star system. ("Shore Leave" [TOS]).
Rigel IV.: Fourth planet in the Rigel system. ("Wolf in the Fold" [TOS]; "Half a Life" [TNG]; "The Wire" [DS9]).
Rigel V.: Fifth planet in the Rigel system. ("Journey to Babel" [TOS]).
Rigel VII.: Seventh planet in the Rigel system. This planet is home to a species of humanoid Rigellians who joined the Federation in the mid-23rd century. There were initial difficulties involved with the culture on this wotrld, including a strong anti-Federation warrior class known as the Kaylar. In 2254 a landing party of Starfleet guests were assaulted in a terrorist attack while on shore leave at an abandoned Kaylar fortress. ("The Cage" [TOS unaired pilot]; "The Passenger" [DS9]; "Death's Angel" [Bantam TOS]).
Rigel XII.: Twelfth planet in the Rigel system, home to a variety of valuable mineral deposits. ("Mudd's Women" [TOS]; "Starfleet Academy" [Pocket]).
Rigel-class.: Type of Federation starship, a heavy scout used during the 24th century. First commissioned in 2327, this class of scout was used extensively in exploring coreward sections of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants throughout the 24th century. Because of long range and self sufficiency, this class has found a secondary life as transport vessels for merchant marine fleets after their Starfleet commissions end. Many of these vessels remain in Starfleet service, however. This vessel has 6 decks and measures 215 meters in length, with a crew of 70. Ships of this class include the Akagi, Arcturus, Barnard, Sirius, Deneb, Polaris, Vega, Tolstoy and the Rigel.("The Price of Freedom" [LUG RPG]). The Rigel-class was an unseen designation devised by Michael Okuda's background graphics, and referenced in the Star Trek Encyclopediæ. No canon design exists, although the Last Unicorn Games role-player showed a vessel that resembled an older Sabre-class as the Rigel.

Rigel, U.S.S.: Federation starship, prototype for the Rigel-class commissioned in 2327. Second starship to bear the name. ("The Price of Freedom" [LUG RPG]). The Rigel-class was an unseen designation devised by Michael Okuda's background graphics, and referenced in the Star Trek Encyclopediæ. No canon design exists, although the Last Unicorn Games role-player showed a vessel that resembled an older Sabre-class as the Rigel.

Rigellians.: Inhabitants of the Rigel star system. ("The Cage" [TOS unaired pilot]).
Rigil, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a destroyer vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. The Rigil's top speed was warp 9.9 on the old scale, and the ship was armed with four torpedo launchers and four phaser emitters. This vessel's complement is 200 crewpeople. (Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]).
Rigil Kentaurus, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1735. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Riker, Jean-Luc.: ("Future Imperfect" [TNG]).
Riker, Kyle.: ("The Icaruys Factor" [TNG]).
Riker, Thomas.: Former second officer of the starship Gandhi, currently a Cardassian prison inmate. Thomas Riker was an exact duplicate of William Riker, created by a transporter accident on the starship Potemkin. ("Second Chances" [TNG]; "Defiant" [DS9]).; In an alternate future timeline created by the opening of a second Bajoran wormhole caused by the Pah-wraiths and the Red Orbs of Jalbador, Thomas Riker was freed from Cardassian imprisonment when that empire fell and became an officer of the Bajoran Ascendancy Starfleet. By 2400 when the starship Defiant returned from temporal flux, Thomas Riker was captain of the Ascendant starship U.S.S. Opaka. ("The War of the Prophets" [Pocket DS9 Millennium #2]). That alternate timeline was of course aborted when the Defiant returned to its own time and prevented the opening of the red wormhole.

Riker, William Thomas.: Starfleet commander, first officer of the starship Enterprise-E. Will Riker was born in Valdez, Alaska in 2335, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Riker. When Will was only two years old, his mother died. He was raised for the rest of his childhood by his father. The younger and elder Riker often clashed, and at the age of fifteen Will ran away from home. He joined Starfleet and graduated an ensign, and was assigned to the starship Pegasus.; In an alternate future timeline created by the opening of a second Bajoran wormhole caused by the Pah-wraiths and the Red Orbs of Jalbador, Commander Riker continued serving under Picard on the Enterprise-E until its destruction when it used a deflector shell to prevent terrorists using a gravitic assimilator from causing Rigel VII to collide with its own moon. The crew survived and Riker was assigned as first officer and later captain of the Enterprise-F. In 2388 Captain Riker was given the assignment of escorting a Grigari delegation to Earth, and raised the Enterprise-F's shields and fired a warning shot presumably after provocation from the Grigari. The Enterprise-F was destroyed after three minutes of battle and in the ensuing conflagration the entire population of Earth was completely decimated.; In one possible future Riker was promoted to Admiral and made commanding officer of Starbase 247 by 2395. The refitted starship Enterprise-D was stationed at this base under his command.; In another possible alternate timeline created by the death of Deanna Troi in 2368, Riker was again admiral, this time commanding Starbase 86. He had wasted his life and career since Deanna's loss, and when he found new evidence of time travel involved in the sudden sickness that killed her, he commandeered a scout ship and used the Guardian of Forever to go back to 2368, saving her and preventing this chain of events from coming about. ("Encounter at Farpoint" [TNG #1&2]; et al.). Played by Jonathan Frakes. The alternate timelines mentioned above both seem unlikely to come to play, as the anti-time future created by Q was averted when Picard bacame aware of his crew's fate, and this is compounded by the fact the Enterprise-D was not refit, but destroyed at Veridian. The "Imzadi" timeline was aborted by Admiral Riker's trip through the Guardian.
Riley, Kevin Thomas.: Lieutenant abaord the starship Enterprise. ("The Naked Time" [TOS #6]; "The Conscience of the King" [TOS #12]; "Present Tense" [Pocket TOS Janus Gate #1]). Played by Bruce Hyde.
Riley, Michael.: ("Battlestations!" [Pocket TOS]).
Riley, Terrence.: ("Crossover" [Pocket TNG HC #6]).
Ring, Savannah.: ("Challenger" [Pocket New Earth]; "Chainmail" [Pocket Gateways #2]).
Rinn, Elias.: Federation ambassador. Elias Rinn was awarded the Federation Peace Medal for convincing the Halkan council to associate with the Federation after decades of refusals. (Officer's Manual [FASA TNG]).
Rittenhouse, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Doppler-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3851. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Rio Grande, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Danube-class runabout, Starfleet registry NCC-72452. The Rio Grande was carried aboard the starship Enterprise-D and delivered to Starbase Deep Space Nine in 2369, assigned to the jurisdiction of Commander Benjamin Sisko. This vessel has been in use there for the past nine years. ("Emissary" [DS9 #1&2], et al.). Of the vessels assigned to Deep Space Nine, the Rio Grande is the only ship that has not been destroyed since the day that station was taken over by Starfleet. If you're going on a trip, try to make it in this ship.
Riutta.: ("Chainmail" [Pocket Gateways #2]).
River of Will.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, an Eminiaran Braniian College starship commanded by Eliior. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
Rivera.: Security officer on the starship Enterprise-D in 2364. Rivera was injured when a group of renegades led by Reglech escaped from the brig. ("Q Affects" [DC TNG #5]).
Riverside.: Town in Iowa, the home of James Tiberius Kirk's family. ("Best Destiny" [Pocket TOS HC]).
Rizzo.: Security ensign on the Enterprise, a good friend of Ensign Garrovick. In 2366 Rizzo died after 60 percent of his red blood cells were removed by the dikironium cloud creature. Rizzo was the only member of his team to survive long enough to be taken back to the ship. He was given continuous transfusions, and made a brief statement before he passed away. ("Obsession" [TOS]). Played by Jerry Ayres. "I think I'll wear red," Rizzo thought on that fateful day...
