-
X-rays.
-
Energetic form of electromagnetic
radiation with wavelengths between 10-11
to 10-9 meters. X-rays
were used in medical imaging scanners into the late 21st century. ("Tuvix"
[VGR #40]).
-
Xanthii,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Starfleet
registry NCC-1743. Built by Rapier Dynamics Group at the New Aberdeen naval
yards on Aldebaran. (Technical
Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships
of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]). The Xanthii was listed in Franz
Joseph's Technical Manual as one of hundreds of proposed
Constitution-class
variant starships (Achernar-class, in this case), and was then shown
in Ships of the Star Fleet as of of the new design variants of the Constitution-class.
Because of the problems presented by enormous numbers of this class listed
by fandom, I am assuming this ship makes more sense as a vessel of another
unknown class.
-
Xanthras
III.
-
Destination of the Enterprise-D
following its mission in the Gamma Erandi nebula in 2366. The Enterprise
was to rendezvous with the U.S.S. Zapata. ("Ménage à
Troi" [TNG #72]).
-
Xelo.
-
Valet to Lwaxana Troi prior
to Mr. Homn. Mrs. Troi said she terminated Xelo's employment, because she
believed he was strongly attracted to her. ("Haven" [TNG #5]).
-
Xendi
Kabu.
-
Star system where the former
DaiMon Bok pursued the starship Enterprise-D in 2370 when he planned
to get revenge on Jean-Luc Picard for the death of his son at Maxia Zeta
by making Picard think that Jason Vigo was his son. ("Bloodlines" [TNG]).
The writer of this script might have meant to write Xendi Sabu, the system
that was mentioned in the earlier episode, "The Battle," but Picard clearly
mentions Xendi Kabu this episode. With the similarity of names it is quite
possible they were in the exact same region and the stars were named for
one constellation, but were two neighboring systems.
-
Xendi
Sabu.
-
Star system where the Enterprise-D
rendezvoused with a Ferengi vessel in 2364 and DaiMon Bok offered Captain
Picard the gift of Picard's old vessel, the Stargazer. This was
briefly the site of an incident when Bok used a contraband Ferengi thought-caster
to torture Picard, and force him to use his old ship to destroy the Enterprise.
("The
Battle" [TNG #10]).
-
Xendi
Starbase 9.
-
Federation base where the starship
Stargazer
was towed after the Enterprise-D recovered it in 2364. ("The
Battle" [TNG #10]). This area of space, everything's called Xendi!
-
Xenex.
-
Planet located in sector 221-H,
near Danteri space. Xenex had long been held by the Danteri, until a revolution
led by M'k'n'zy of Calhoun. A peace settlement was later mediated by Captain
Picard of the starship Stargazer., but the cause for the end to
hostilities was largely due to Calhoun's leadership of patriots on his
world. ("House of Cards" [Pocket NF #1]).
-
Xenexians.
-
Humanoid species native to Xenex.
This species is outwardly very similar to Terran humans, but one notable
difference is that thirty eight percent of the Xenexian population possess
purple colored eyes. Captain Mackenzie Calhoun of the starship Excalibur
is of this species. SEE: M'k'n'zy; D'ndai. ("House of Cards" [Pocket
NF #1], et al.).
-
xenoarchaeology.
-
Field of study that Dr. Josiah
Wembly excelled in. ("Stowaway" [Malibu DS9 #1&2]).
-
xenophobia.
-
Psychological term for a fear
of outsiders. ("Attached" [TNG #160]).
-
Xenophon,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, a destroyer-type
vessel. Built in the 23rd century. (Federation
Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The manual listed this as
a Larson-class destroyer
with a registry of NCC-4342. I haven't listed it in the main body of the
entry, because it seems unlikely Starfleet would have so many hundreds
of the same type of ship.
-
xenopolycythemia.
-
Disease characterized by the
an abnormal proliferation of red blood cells causing varied symptoms including
weakness, fatigue, enlarged spleen, and pain in the extremities. Leonard
McCoy was diagnosed with terminal xenopolycythemia in 2269. He was cured,
thanks to advanced medical knowledge gleaned from the Fabrini spaceship
Yonada.
Prior to that time, the disease was thought to be incurable.
("For the
World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" [TOS #65]; "Cloak" [Pocket
TOS Section 31]).
-
xenosis.
-
Disease that affects humans
living alien worlds for extended periods of time. It causes degeneration
of the autonomic nervous system, which eventually causes death when the
body cannot control itself to continue living. Lady Amanda was diagnosed
with degenerative xenosis in 2267, but was cured by an experimental treatment
created by Daniel Corrigan and Sorel at the Vulcan Science Academy. ("The
Vulcan Academy Murders" [Pocket TOS #20]).
-
xenylon.
-
Material from which Starfleet
uniforms are composed. Xenylon is durable in the extreme, and has special
properties which keep the wearer comfortable in a variety of environments.
Xenylon is made from fibers derived from an alien algae substance. ("The
Terratin Incident" [TAS]; "Let He Who is Without Sin..." [DS9]).
-
Xepolites.
-
Unaffiliated humanoid civilization
who sometimes served as covert intermediates for the Cardassians. Xepolite
free traders have never been caught serving Cardassian interests. Their
vessels can travel warp 9.8 and have sensor reflective hulls. SEE: Drofo
Awa. ("The Maquis" [DS9 #40&41]).
-
Xerius.
-
("The Time Trap" [TAS]).
-
Xerx,
Chandra.
-
Betazoid. ("Imzadi" [Pocket
TNG HC #2]; "Imzadi II: Triangle" [Pocket TNG HC]).
-
Xerx,
Gart.
-
Betazoid. ("Imzadi" [Pocket
TNG HC #2]; "Imzadi II: Triangle" [Pocket TNG HC]).
-
Xerxes
VI.
-
Planet where Ferengi entrepreneur
Glav owned some property, his only possession after he was cheated and
bankrupted by Quark. On his plot were discovered large deposits of calvinum,
which he sold to Byfrexians for 2 million bars of latinum. ("The
Siege" [Pocket DS9 #2]).
-
Xerxes
VII.
-
Planet where the mythical land
Neinman is purported to be found. ("When the Bough Breaks" [TNG #18]).
-
Xerxes,
U.S.S.
-
Federation starship, Saladin-class
destroyer, Starfleet registry NCC-505. (Technical Manual [TOS]; Federation
Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The FASA manual listed this
as a Larson-class destroyer
with a registry of NCC-4340. I haven't listed it in the main body of the
entry, because it seems unlikely Starfleet would have so many hundreds
of the same type of ship.
-
Xhaldia.
-
("Planet X" [Pocket TNG/X-Men]).
-

-
Xhosa.
-
Civilian freighter, commanded
by Kasidy Yates. The Xhosa is owned by Petarian interests. In 2372
the Xhosa was intercepted by the I.K.S. M'Char during the
Klingon offensive on Cardassia. The starship Defiant intervened
and prevented the vessel from being boarded. ("The Way of the Warrior"
[DS9 #73&74]; "For the Cause" [DS9 #94]).
-
Xindi.
-
Coalition of humanoid and non-humanoid
species that originates in the Delphic Expanse. The Xindi were largely
unknown to the peoples of the Alpha Quadrant due to the unexplorable nature
of the Delphic Expanse. The Xindi gained the attention of the Vulcans and
Terrans in April 2153 when they launched a devastating terror attack against
Earth, killing millions. Believing the Xindi animosity towards the Terran
species could possibly be motivated by the Temporal Cold War, the Enterprise
NX-01 was dispatched to investigate and combat the Xindi threat later that
year, becoming the first Terran vessel to enter the Delphic Expanse. ("The
Expanse" [ENT #52]; "The Xindi"
[ENT #53]).
-
XO.
-
Abbreviation for executive officer.
On some Federation starships the second officer (third-in-command of the
ship, who commands the vessel during the night shift) is referred to as
the 'executive officer', apparently at the captain's discretion, because
on most Federation ships the term exec refers to the second-in-command,
the first officer. ("Paradise Lost" [DS9]; "Once Burned" [Pocket Captain's
Table]). The idea of the nightside XO was originated by Peter David for
his New Frontier novels. Although this is a sensible postulation, it doesn't
reflect the command structure shown on Federation starships in filmed Star
Trek.
-
Xon.
-
Starfleet officer in the late
23rd century. Xon was a full-blooded Vulcan who was assigned to the starship
Enterprise
following its refit as a junior grade science officer. As of the early
2280s Starfleet Intelligence had enlisted Lieutenant Xon as an undercover
agent in Romulan space, a fact known only to his fiancé, Saavik.
In 2285 Saavik entered Pon Farr and attempted to find Xon, who was undercover
posing as an officer at a Romulan top-secret research facility near the
galactic barrier. The starship Enterprise followed her and assisted
in quelling the threat of Romulan research with psi fields created by the
barrier. Their careers eventually caused Saavik and Xon to nullify their
betrothal. ("Pon Farr" [DC TOS #7]; "Blood Fever" [DC TOS #8]). Xon
was slated to replace Spock in the Star Trek Phase II TV series. When Leonard
Nimoy returned to the fold for Star Trek: The Motion Picture (which is
what Phase II ended up being produced as), the part of Xon was written
out of the film. Actor David Gautreaux was slated to play the character,
and did appear in the film as Commander Branch.
-
Xox.
-
Homeworld of the Xoxians. When
the Xoxian ambassador to the Federation, Uxumel, returned to this planet
in 2373 he carried a telepathic meme virus engineered by the Dominion to
disable the Federation's telepaths. Since the Xox rely on telepathy for
their sight, speech and hearing, a large segment of the population was
rendered deaf, dumb and blind. In the ensuing chaos, cataclysms decimated
many Xoxian cities and caused many of the stricken to take their own lives,
including the guilt stricken Ambassador Uxumel. ("Telepathy War" [Marvel
Telepathy War #1]).
-
Xoxians.
-
Telepathic humanoid species
native to the planet Xox. Xoxians are red in color and have four cranial
extensions along the upper skull. This species communicates exclusively
by telepathy, and as such has no natural ears, eyes or vocal cords. When
the Xoxian ambassador to the Federation, Uxumel, returned to his homeworld
in 2373 he carried a telepathic meme virus engineered by the Dominion to
disable the Federation's telepaths. Since the Xox rely on telepathy for
their sight, speech and hearing, a large segment of the population was
rendered deaf, dumb and blind. In the ensuing chaos, cataclysms decimated
many Xoxian cities and caused many of the stricken to take their own lives,
including the guilt stricken Ambassador Uxumel. ("Telepathy War" [Marvel
Telepathy War #1]).
