Y SECTION 1: Y through Yz.

Yaan, U.S.S.: Federation starship proposed during the 23rd century. This vessel's construction was cancelled, and it's registry was assigned to another vessel. (Technical Manual [Franz Joseph TOS]; Ships of the Star Fleet [Mastercom]). It's possible ships of these names were still built, of different classes and registry numbers. If built, this ship would have been Achernar-class, with the registry NCC-1762, according to the manuals.
Yadalla Prime.: ("Gambit" [TNG #156&157]).
Yadera Prime.: Planet in the Gamma Quadrant, home to the Yaderans. Yadera Prime was conquered by the Dominion in 2340. ("Shadowplay" [DS9 #36]).
Yadera II.: Hologrphic simulation of Yadera Prime created by Rurigan after the Dominion conquered that world. ("Shadowplay" [DS9 #36]).
Yaderans.: Humanoid lifeforms native to Yadera Prime. This species was conquered by the Dominion in 2340. ("Shadowplay" [DS9 #36]).
Yadozi Desert.: Legendary dry environment on the planet Bajor. ("A Man Alone" [DS9 #3]).
Yak'talon.: Jem'Hadar, rank of Seventh. Engineer on the planet in the dark matter nebula where Sisko crashed in the recovered Jem'Hadar fighter. ("Rocks and Shoals" [DS9]).
Yale, Mirasta.: Minister of Science on the planet Malcor II. ("First Contact" [TNG #89]). Played by Carolyn Seymour.
Yallitians.: Humanoid species native to the Delta Quadrant. ("Phage" [VGR #5]).
Yalosians.: Sentient lifeforms that breathe a mixture of nitrogen, benzene and hydrogen fluoride. ("Improbable Cause" [DS9 #65]).
Yamaguchi, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Ambassador-class explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-26510. The Yamaguchi was destroyed at the battle of Wolf 359. ("Emissary" [DS9 #1&2]).
Yamashiro, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Excelsior-class explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-2494. (FASA Officer's Manual [TNG]).
Yamato-class.: Type of Federation starship. ("Klingon Academy").
Yamato, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Starfleet registry NCC-1305. (Conjecture).
Yamato, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a cruiser-type vessel which was built in the 23rd century. (Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]). The FASA manual lists the registry as NCC-1705, I suppose that is just as likely as a registry of NCC-1305-A ;-). The manual also lists this as a Constitution-class vessel, one of hundreds. Doesn't seem likely.
Yamato, U.S.S.: Federation starship, prototype for the Yamato-class. ("Klingon Academy" [Interplay]).
Yamato-E, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Galaxy-class explorer, Starfleet registry NCC-1305-E/NCC-71807. The Yamato is the sixth Federation starship to bear the name, and bears a double registry per a special dispensation of Starfleet command honoring the previous starships Yamato. Commissioned in 2363 under the command of Captain Donald Varley. Some other officers on this ship were Commander Steve Gerber, Lieutenant Commander Beth Woods and Dr. Ramsey. ("Where Silence Has Lease" [TNG]; "Contagion" [TNG]). Members of the Next Generation production staff maintain that the Yamato's registry is NCC-71807, based on the assumption that Riker's dialogue quoting NCC-1305-E was a mistake. However it was aired dialogue and, in my opinion is more substantial as evidence than the illegible numbers on the model they blew up.
yamok sauce.: ("Progress" [DS9 #15]; "Duet" [DS9 #19]; "The Way of the Warrior" [DS9 #73&74]; "By Inferno's Light" [DS9 #113]).
Yan-Isleth.: ("Apocalypse Rising" [DS9 #99]).
Yanar.: ("The Outageous Okona" [TNG #30]). Played by Rosalind Ingledew.
Yang.: ("The Terratin Incident" [Log #4 #1]).
Yangs.: ("The Omega Glory" [TOS #54]).
Yankees.: ("Past Tense" [DS9 57&58]).
Yangtzee Kiang, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Danube-class runabout, Starfleet registry NCC-72453. ("Emissary" [DS9 #1&2]; "Battle Lines" [DS9 #13]).
ya'nora kor.: ("Firstborn" [TNG #173]).
Yar, Ishara.: Younger sister of Natasha Yar, a native of the failed Turkana IV colony. Just after her birth in 2342 she was orphaned when her parents were killed in a gang war crossfire, and cared for by her sister Tasha. After Tasha left on a starship, Ishara pledged to one of Turkana's main rival gangs in order to be protected. She resented her sister for leaving and felt she owed the gangs her life. ("Legacy" [TNG #80]). Played by Beth Toussaint.
Yar, Natasha.: (2337-2364). Security chief of the starship Enterprise-D until her death in 2364. Tasha, as she was called by her shipmates, was a survivor of the failed colony on Turkana IV, a virtual warzone of rival gangs, drugs and sexual predators. She was rescued from the clutches of a gang led by Regletch by Commander Darryl Adin, security chief of the starship Cochrane. She spent the remainder of her teen years in Starfleet Academy pursuing a career in security. On a training cruise, her vessel was attacked by Orion pirates and a majority of the crew killed after all phaser units aboard the ship wer abotaged. Adin was court-martialed for the act, but it was later learned the engineer had disabled the weapons. Yar was on a starship dispatched to Carnellia along with Jean-Luc Picard. He observed her run across a minefield to save a child and requested she be assigned as his security chief on his new vessel. Tasha was killed later that year by a being known as Armus when attemting to recue Troi and Prieto from a crashed shuttle. ("Encounter at Farpoint" [TNG #1&2]; et al.). Played by Denise Crosby.
Yar, Natasha (alternate).: In an alternate timeline created when the starship Enterprise-C was sent 22 years into the future, Tasha was chief tactical and security officer on the warship Enterprise-D fighting the Klingon Empire in 2366. ("Yesterday's Enterprise" [TNG #63]). Played by Denise Crosby.
Yareena.: ("Code of Honor" [TNG #4]). Played by Karole Selmon.
Yareth.: ("Vortex" [DS9 #12]). Played by Leslie Engelberg.
Yarka.: Former Bajoran vedek, removed from the assembly in 2371 after leading protests against the Cardassian Peace Treaty. Known scholar and expert in the Prophesies. Warned Commander Sisko of the impending fulfilment of Trakor's Third Prophesy during the installation of a new transceiver array by the Cardassians. ("Destiny" [DS9 #61]). Played by Erick Avari.
Yarnek.: Excalbian. Yarnek communicated with Kirk and Spock when his race kidnapped them in 2268. ("The Savage Curtain" [TOS]). Played by Janos Prohaska and the voice of Bartell LaRue.
Yassim.: Bajoran vedek, a vocal opponent of Bajor's compliance with the Dominion and especially the plan to allow 400 Dominion facilitators to land on Bajor to assess trade needs and provide technical assistance. Hung herself from the railing of the Promenade in protest with the cry "Evil must be opposed." ("Rocks and Shoals [DS9]). Played by Lilyan Chauvin.
Yates.: Starfleet engineer assigned to the U.S.S. Excalibur. Yates was part of Chief Engineer Burgoyne's repair team sent to the damaged freighter Cambon in 2373. ("House of Cards" [Pocket NF #1]; "Into the Void" [Pocket NF #2]).
Yates, Kasidy.: Merchant Captain of the cargo vessel Xhosa, a regular visitor to station DS9. She gained contract with the Bajoran Ministry of Commerce in 2372 and acquired a permanent residence on DS9 shortly after. Convicted of selling supplies to the Maquis in late 2372 and sentenced to 6 months in a Federation penal colony. ("Family Business" [DS9] "Indiscretion" [DS9] "The Way of the Warrior" [DS9 #73&74] "For the Cause" [DS9]). Played by Penny Johnson.
Ya'Seem.: Archaeological discovery. ("The Chase" [TNG #146]).
Yeager, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Sabre-class, Starfleet registry NCC-61947. ("First Contact" [Movie #8]).

Yeager, U.S.S.: Federation starship, a patrol cruiser, Starfleet registry NCC-65674. This ship measures 402.11 meters in length, crews 204, and displaces 550,000 metric tonnes and is capable of speeds up to warp 9.55 for 12 hours. The second starship to bear the name, the Yeager was one of many refit starships in Starfleet fighting during the Dominion war. It was named for the vessel lost defending Earth from the Borg in 2373. This vessel often served as a patrol around space station Deep Space Nine. (Technical Manual [DS9]). This ship was most often seen in stock footage of the DS9 station from the fifth season on. Photos obtained of the studio model show that the Yeager's registry was a rearrangement of the decals from Voyager's NCC-74656. The secondary hull of the Yeager was made from a Maquis raider model, while the primary hull is a Voyager model. The two pieces are not to scale to each other, so it must be assumed the stardrive section just looks like a Maquis hull ;-). While this vessel is often called Yeager-class, this has never been established, and seems unlikely in light of the use of the Yeager name for the earlier vessel in "First Contact" [Movie #8]. Yelgrun.: Vorta who oversaw the prisoner exchange of Ishka for Keevan, captured by Quark and his Ferengi party and turned over to the Federation. ("The Magnificent Ferengi" [DS9]). Played by Iggy Pop.
yellow alert.: Ship condition in which the vessel and crew are at action status, and are ready for hazards. Deflector screens are activated and weapons are powered but not charged.
Yellowstone, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Sequoia-class. ("Melora" [DS9]). The class designation and NCC of the Yellowstone were devised by Michael Okuda for the Star Trek Encyclopedia.
Yellowstone, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Yellowstone-class runabout, Starfleet registry NX-74751. A prototype, the first of its class to be built. ("Non Sequitur" [VGR]).
Yellowstone-class.: Type of Federation starship, an experimental runabout. ("Non Sequitur" [VGR]).
Yeln.: Bajoran man who was listed as a survivor of the Elemspur detention camp. Events in 2371 revealed a possibility that he was in fact a Cardassian agent. ("Second Skin" [DS9]).
Yevir Linjarin.: ("Twilight" [Pocket DS9 Mission: Gamma #1]).
Yi, Jae.: Captain of the starship Khitomer. ("Bridge Commander" [Activision]).
Yin, Susan.: Starfleet executive officer who served on one of the vessels summoned by Vaughan Rittenhouse during his unsuccessful coup in the 2260s. Computer files indicated that Yin, along with many other key Starfleet officers, were connected to Rittenhouse's interests. ("Dreadnought!" [Pocket TOS #29]).
yin and yang.: Chinese Taoist philosophy. ("So Near the Touch" [DC TOS Annual #1]).
Yonada.: Asteroid generational starship built by the Fabrini when their star system was destroyed by a nova ten thousand years ago. The ship traveled for milennia before making planetfall at New Fabrina in 2269. ("For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" [TOS]).
Yonada, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Surya-class frigate, Starfleet registry NCC-1879. The Yonada was named for the Fabrini spacecraft that made planetfall on New Fabrina in 2270. It was later refit into a Miranda-class starship. (Ships of the Starfleet, vol.1).
York, Anton.: Forty-fifth president of the United States of America on Terra. A replicant of York was a citizen of Lazarus' city on Gamma Alpha V. ("The Legacy of Lazarus" [Gold Key TOS #9]).
Yorkshire-class.: Type of Federation starship, classified as a transport. Ships of this type include the Denver and, presumably, the Yorkshire. (Star Trek Encyclopedia, vol. 1).
Yorkshire, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Yorkshire-class transport. First vessel of its type built. (Conjecture).
Yorktown, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Constitution-class, Starfleet registry NCC-1717. Prior to his tour on the Enterprise, Captain Pike commanded the Yorktown. Under the command of Captain Joel Randolph, the Yorktown was disabled by the Whalesong probe in 2286. The vessel was retired to the Fleet museum shortly thereafter. ("The Enchanted Pool" [Bantam TOS New Voyages #3]; "Vulcan's Glory" [Pocket TOS]; "The Voyage Home" [Movie #4]; "Crossover" [Pocket TNG HC]; Ships of the Star Fleet; Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]; Federation Starship Recognition Manual [FASA RPG]).
Yorktown, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Enterprise-class. While still under construction, the Yorktown was renamed Enterprise, NCC-1701-A in honor of Admiral Kirk and his crew's efforts to save Earth during the Whalesong crisis. (Technical Manual [TNG]).
Yorktown, U.S.S.: Federation starship. Second starship to bear the name Yorktown. Tuvok's father served on this vessel in 2293. ("Flashback" [VGR]).
Yorktown, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Zodiac-class, Starfleet registry NCC-61137. Third starship to bear the name Yorktown.
Yosemite, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Oberth-class, Starfleet registry NCC-19002. In 2341 the Yosemite was commanded by Captain Rumiel. ("Relam of Fear" [TNG]; "Mystery of the Missing Crew" [Starfleet Academy]).
Young, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Dollond-class transport/tug, Starfleet registry NCC-3910. (Technical Manual [TOS]).
Younger.: Starfleet command officer who captained a destroyer-type vessel in the mid to late 23rd century. (Begin Tactical Starship Simulator [Clockwork Software]). The game software put each captain name in command of a random vessel each time the game was played.
Yoz.: Massively built Thallonian man who was Lord Chancellor within the Thallonian Empire. Yoz worked together with Ryjaan, D'ndai and Zoran in an attempt to rid themselves of Si Cwan and Mackenzie Calhoun who they believed might interfere with their plans to forge a coalition of Thallon, Danter and Xenex that might eventually rival the Federation. ("House of Cards" [Pocket NF #1]; "End Game" [Pocket NF #4]).
Y'Pora.: Bajoran midwife who attended Kira Nerys in the birth of the O'Brien child. ("The Begotten" [DS9 #110]). Played by Peggy Roeder.
Yranac.: ("The Chase" [TNG #146]). Played by Alan Altshuld.
Yrevish.: Orion language. ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Yridian Consortium.: Government of the Yridian species.
Yridians.: Humanoid species known throughtout the quadrant as information traders. Operators of several deep space freelance spy networks, they can be considered sources of both legal and illegal information. They will sell their secrets to the highest bidder, and therefore are considered a threat to Federation security. Arrest Warrants are outstanding for the leaders of the main Yridian spy networks. Physically they are stooped over, grey skinned humanoids with very loose, flaccid skin. ("Birthright" [TNG #142&143]; "The Chase" [TNG #146]; "Gambit" [TNG #156&157]; "The Maquis" [DS9 #40&41]; "Improbable Cause" [DS9 #65]; "Equinox" [VGR]; "Fusion" [ENT]).
yruss.: Food prepared by Neelix, in a dish which also featured broccoli. ("No Man's Land" [Pocket VGR Gateways #5]).
Yssir.: ("Futures" [Marvel EV #12-14]).
Ytaho.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, an Orion Union starship commanded by Legarratlinya. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
Y'tem, I.K.S.: ("By Inferno's Light" [DS9 #113]).
Yudrin, Phelana.: Starfleet officer, an Andorian. ("Republic" [Pocket TOS]).
yukka chips.: Delicious, green, curved, wafer-like fingerfood that was a Thallonian delicacy. While visiting Thallon in 2373, Lieutenant Mark McHenry took a liking to yukka chips. ("End Game" [Pocket NF #4]).
Yukon.: Space vessel that took part in the Belle Terre expedition in the 2270s, a leased Conestoga carrier commanded by Captain Battersey. ("Wagon Train to the Stars" [Pocket New Earth #1]).
Yukon University.: Space vessel that participated in the 2260s Great Starship Race, a Yukon University starship commanded by James Neumark. ("The Great Starship Race" [Pocket TOS #67]).
Yukon, U.S.S.: Federation starship, Danube-class runabout. ([DS9]).
Yultar.: Gul in the Cardassian Third Order. ("Image in the Sand" [DS9]).
Yum Nect: Legendary tyrant who is credited with the deaths of thousands, if not millions. ("Red Sector" [Pocket TNG #53]).
Yuta.: Acamarian, a member of clan Tralesta. ("The Vengeance Factor" [TNG #57]). Played by Lisa Wilcox.
Yutan.: One of the Hill People on Neural. ("A Private Little War" [TOS #45]). Played by Gary Pillar.
